Nice avatar, that show rocks. Maybe we'll bring back Donovan Warren for another test run. I think we could use some help at safety too. Although Pool seemed to have found his groove at times so maybe he just needed more time to adjust to Rex's system. From what I understand safeties in Rex's system are pretty complex.

Watching the 3rd day wrap up presser tonight, Tanny was asked about safety and linebacker positions. His answer was basically, when the league gets its shit together, we will be ready. Strongly signalling there will be some FA pickups coming as soon as possible. So the FO is aware that they need people at those positions, and can't wait to get it taken care of.
This could easily be replaced by "Where the fuck is my Nose Tackle Rex??" oh wait there he is... All in good time my man, all in good time....

I don't get the disrespect for Smith. He's not a great over-the-top guy, but is a quintessential in-the-box, hard hitting 5th LB type of safety that can cover H-backs over the middle. And he is football smart. Most of his penalties have been bullshit calls or not his fault. He's a Rex type of player that I don't see Rex parting with willingly. What we really need is a cover guy that can take Pool's injury-prone spot.
I really don't get why people just blow off Lowery at safety. He can be a really nice option there with an offseason of prep (if they ever end the lockout).

bolded guys, are the ones I would consider the best options on the market. truthfully, Laron Landry is the prize of the class, but Jimmy Leonhard might be the #2 safety on the market next year. Some great corners will be available should we decide we need another one haha.
Jim Leonhard is good enough to win a Super Bowl with. Eric Smith is good enough if there's somebody like Reed or Polamalu alongside him.
Smith is a hard hitter, which is why he's had so many concussions, but he's a liability in pass coverage.
i say keep leonhard and smith... but smith should be a situational guy... we need to get a coverage safety to start for him on most passing downs... someone who could cover a TE and have the recovery speed
Leonhard is overrated, Smith is underrated, but neither is very good. Brodney Pool hasn't even made a play this year. We're lucky our safeties' issues aren't magnified due to the fact we have excellent cornerback play.
I'm disappointed in Pool this season.. I thought he played great down the stretch last season after Leonhard's injury and into the playoffs. I was expecting to see more of him this year.. he can't possibly be worse in coverage than Smith.
Charles Godfrey wouldn't be a bad pickup. And Landry would be an amazing signing, but there's no way he hits FA.
