If the D-line can get tons of pressure and force the opposing QBs to get rid of the ball safety will not be that huge of an issue. Rex and Tanny know what they are doing. If they thought it was that big of a deal they would have drafted a safety already.
we have 2 7ths and Hagg, Sash, and McDaniels are all on the board at the mid 6th. as is Beal, Friday, and Chinasa.
I don't get the cry for a safety? OLB, yes but Not S. With Leonhard, Smith, Pool, and Lowery we are good IMO. Smith really turned it up in the playoffs as well as Pool and Lowery. All without Leonhard.
Lowery's play was very limited, but he did do ok. Really funny thing was, up until Jimmy got hurt, Pool was invisible and Smith, was well, Smith, nothing spectacular. One Leonhard was gone, they both stepped up and played very very well. Whatever the reason, if they can keep that up, we're good. Don't forget Dig either
I've been saying since last night...go look at the FA safety class. It's much better than the class at our other needs. Cheaper position, too.
your safety is a free agent or available in next years draft. we filled needs with BPA picks and that will help backside coverage bolstering the front line. this class was weak for DB's IMO after Prince, Peterson, and Smith
This is a weak draft for safeties. 5 drafted, and basically 5 prospects left. 1 in the 2nd, 3 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th.. 1 pick left, maybe they grab Deandre McDaniel
in a shitty safety class, where FA hasn't even begun, let's calm down with not getting a safety. Does anyone think a safety from this class is going to be the next Ed Reed? Because the chances are extremely slim. And what is a rookie safety going to do besides get knocked for not being amazing in this defense?
I don't know why so many people think Brodney Pool sucks.. after Leonhard got hurt Pool stepped up huge and played great. There is no reason to think he can't keep that going into next year if he's brought back. I'm sure Tanny has a veteran safety in mind to add to the mix for depth as well.
Looks like Lefeged, McDaniel and Williams will all be available as UDFAs, not that they'd make a huge impact this year.
He stepped up but he never really played better than a stop-gap. He's not a long-term starter. I'm guessing the CS likes Lowery a lot more than the fan base and are willing to let Leonhard go another year before lining up his replacement.
