He was at his best at DT destroying guards in college When moved to DE in the 4-3 he had a down year which is why he fits in well for us as a DE in our base 3-4 because he's a beats interior rusher
Last week we faced Reggie Bush who averaged 6.1 ypc so it makes sense there wouldn't be much of a pass rush with the Jets playing the run constantly.
I can't help but to recall all the bragging by Maybin about bulking up during the offseason and wonder if it did something to his speed. Just throwing that out there. It would not surprise me.
The Coples hate has got to stop. He has barely played and when he has, he's been getting some solid pressure.
Seeing Bruce Irvin beast it up last night for the Seahawks didn't make me feel any better. I don't know if well ever have that really good pass rusher on this team.
Our front seven is full of run stoppers, short of Aaron Maybin and Quinton Coples, and both have been invisible thus far. That's why our pass rush is non-existent. Calvin Pace hasn't been a pass rusher since he left Zona, unless you count getting to the QB two seconds after he threw the ball as pass rushing. That was the biggest bust of a FA signing we've had here in a long time when you consider the money we spent and continue to pay him for at best mediocre play.
Didn't read all replies so this may be a dupe 3 reasons 1. They are not good pass rushers 2. Bad run stop ability forces coaches to use run stoppers instead of rushers (like coples) 3. Players know they are getting smoked in the run game and can't pin their ears back I go mostly with the first reason
Too bad the CS doesn't feel like playing him. I read that he only played 15 of 63 plays in the Dolphins game.
Yea seriously. We can't have superstars at every position and ill take Thomas rotating with Mcintyre this year with what we have. I do agree though, the Jets always let guys go too late in their careers.
