Whats the point of complaining about 3-4 over 4-3 now?

It's not like we were absolutely loaded with 4-3 talent.

I'd rather just sign E. Kelly or Sopoaga for depth/potential, and draft a DE in this draft like Moore or Balmer.

We need size on the D-line period, might as well get a decent young DE. Or we could draft Frank Morton or someone with NT size in this draft.

yes it was, but we hired Mangini, so now there is no point to divert from the path we are on since our D has sucked during this transition. Going back to the 4-3 now just says we will abandon our plan to convert to a 3-4, therefore making the last 2 years of pain and suffering absolutely pointless. Mangini will complete the conversion, if he gets the chance to.

Plus, what do we have for the 4-3?

    Ellis sucked in '05.

We have no DT besides DRob that takes more than 10 snaps a game.

We have no real pass rushing DE.

Rhodes, BT, Hobson, Ellis, and DRob have all improved in the 3-4 as opposed to '05 in the 4-3.

Honestly, the only player who has truly busted in the 3-4 is Vilma. Everyone else is just a meh player in any system.

so lets just bath in mediocrity? 4-3 players are much easier to aquire, and the keys to success usually rely on the coach. the 3-4 needs certain types of people who are not easy to come by. in the end mangini will always have the loop hole "well all our pieces were not gathered, thats why we are not there yet?" bull--it! mangini was not, and is not ready to be a coach in this league, he isnt even ready to be a decent coordinator. to suffer through the mangini process is pointless.

4-3 players are easier to acquire?

A run stopping DT, two pass rushing ends, and another DT that can plug and pass rush is easy to find?

What certain types of people are hard to come by in a 3-4? DE's are usually 4-3 UTs, and the DE/OLBs are usually smaller 4-3 DEs.

The 3-4 is cheaper than a 4-3 too. Think about how much it costs to keep two pass rushing DEs AND two very good DTs. It's not easy to find OR to keep.

It's extremely tough to find a 3-4 NT, but once you do you can play in whatever front you want.

Plus, we play alot of 4-3. No 3-4 team plays all 3-4 all the time. We still suck when we line up in the 4-3.

not easier to aquire, more abundant..my bad. the conversion of those tackles and de's to other positions is not an easy task, especially for coaches without a clue. some players never make it, or end up going somewhere else to get back to what it is they do well, for their money's sake. the 3-4 is not cheaper, only our team is cheaper. dont base costs on schemes, thats rediculous. individual personel dictate costs. if you have 11 superstars, they will cost more than 11 ducks. we do play some 4-3, but i wouldnt say alot. our defense sucks no matter what we try. this is a reflection of coaching, more so than personel and the transformation to another scheme.

Lucky for us Mangini has shown he does have a clue and that he does have an eye for talent.

And the 3-4 is way cheaper to build...of course you have to pay for the elite guys when they become elite. But the difference between franchising a DE or an OLB is huge.

its year two and mangini has a clue? the players that he is working with, day in and day out, must be really slow learners. i think its because they have to keep running in circles. eye for talent? our o-line, and d-line, kind of trump your theory. other than the drafts, which do have mistakes in them, believe it or not, our talent has not reached higher levels. there are many more olb's compared to de's thats the franchise difference.in a 3-4 you need quality depth on the front 7 more so than 4-3. 3 d-linemen battling 5 o-linemen all game takes a bigger toll on starters than 4 d-linemen, battling 5 o-linemen.so how does all this end up being cheaper?

Players Mangini has drafted or that have played better under Mangini:

    Revis
Harris (the two faces of our D in the future)
    DRob
    Ellis
    BT
    Rhodes
    Hobson
Barton (solid player in both the 3-4 and 4-3)
    D'Brick
    Mangold
    Leon

Players signed by Mangini that played well/are playing well:

    Coleman
    Dyson
    TJ

Not to mention the only reason we won 10 games last year was because of our coaching staff, a whole lot of luck, and the defensive improvement mid-season. Mangini doesn't have a clue? I'd say he showed otherwise last year. Were you one of the people who thought we'd be a SB contender this year?

    Or mediocre.

You mean by drafting our starting LT and our star C? Or by improving the play of an aging DE, a mediocre, undersized DT he didn't draft, and signing a solid stop gap at DE? It's not like Coleman's contract is so crazy we couldn't cut him pretty easily either.

    How so?

Because backup linebackers don't break the bank and the front 3 DL are cheaper overall? The 4 DL in the 4-3 are expensive. Having one less in the 3-4 makes it cheaper overall (to start). Of course those prices will (and are) going up with the popularity of the 3-4, but I'd rather pay 3 good DLmen than 4.

And there are not many more 3-4 OLB than DE's...almost all 3-4 DE/OLBs played DE in college.

It was soooooooo foolish not to bring Grady Jackson in as a stop gap.

They should light the opposing team's offensive line on fire, he'll bust right through them and save that quarterback's life.
