It's only simple when your society has perfected it. Bring iron making to the southern parts of Africa in 1500 BC and tell them to do that simple thing.
It'd be simple for anybody else who was building a 3-4 around their LB's also. That said, even the teams building their 3-4's around the LB corps, like the 49ers and the Texans, have tended to spend a lot of 1st round picks doing that. Maybe the Steelers really do have some secret sauce on that side of the ball.
The problem with Woody is as we all already know that he cares more about headlines and signing jokes like Tebow to sell seats,Its to bad it really is because it's something that can't be changed, don't get me wrong I'm sure Woodpecker wants to win but his prioritys aren't in the right order
It's the contrast between effectiveness and explosiveness, and it has everything to do with the freedom of finding your guys in the mid tiers of the drafts. Either you find a guy that can destroy the ball carrier, or you find a guy that can wrap him up and let a safety destroy him. With Houston and SF... Both of those teams have changed defensive schemes in recent years. Same as the Jets. The only constant is that the Steelers have the compete luxury of waiting until a blue chip defender falls to them in the first round.
Woody care more about sitting on politians lap than put forth the effort needed to make this team good. Does he have to be like Mark Cuban? No. But he should sell the team to an owner that want people to talk about his team because of the championships they win. Not talk about them for any crazy crap that goes on that doen't help the team win.
I think it all started going wrong when Tanny and the FO decided to bring in Favre. Think back to how Penny played for the fins that year-- and think how the Jets were playing until 4 got hurt. If Chad were around, we would not only have won the division, we could have made a deep run in the playoffs. Who knows, maybe he wouldn't have gotten hurt again so soon. If he had been our starter for 08-11, our chances at a lombardi in that span would have been a lot better. Imagine if we had a healthy Pennington instead of Sanchez with that 09 line and running game. Just on the reduction in QB fumbles and INTs we would have dominated. Now, if Penny's around, maybe we Draft a QB a year earlier, Ideally Flacco, but the Jets don't get that lucky-- Maybe Henne or Brian Brohm. Not great, but a few years to develop and learn the offense. Better than Ghost, (who we took) at any rate, and likely better than Sanchez will turn out. But even if not, if we pick Sanchez and he gets a year or two to sit behind Penny, he has to turn out better than what he has become. At any rate, just a thought. One I had all through 08-09. I didn't think of it again until I saw the title to this thread.
That game Sanchez got beat the hell up non-stop. Had i think two reviewed fumbled calls go against him. They did shell shock him the rest of the season.
I think that game will define his career. I've already kicked the shit out of two Ravens fans for talking shit about it, so I think I have it out of my system, but I may have to kill one if I have to hear about that Super Bowl victory in conjunction. That hit on Sanchez turned him into a different human being. And turned the Jets' investment in him into dog shit. I'm almost to the point now where I want to see Simms.
If by "kicked the shit out of two Ravens fans", you mean you tried to sneak out of the bar in your "I heart Sanchez" t-shirt while they harassed you, only to be followed up by absorbing verbal jabs about your inability to grow anything other than a neckbeard while withstanding wedgies and noogies until you ran home to your Mom's basement to make this last post? If so, I believe it.
They can do this because they have [Gulp!] Kevin Butler. He is as instrumental as Dick LeBeau in Steelers' defense. Yeah. Easy for THEM to do. Not every team gets that luxury. Hell, if Jets had Butler, this defense has a really good potential to be near HISTORIC in a near future, now that Karl Dunbar is coaching the line. With Ryan calling the shot? Ryan Leaf can come out of retirement to win the SB with that kind of defense. I shit you not. Compare that with the likes of Bob Sutton. It is not a mystery that Jets LBs have sucked for years while Steelers LBs ruled the landscapes for the past decade. [Or this applies to nearly every other organization.] Again, this necessarily means you have a good coaching staff that can raise the level of the prospect once you draft the kid. Jets coaching prowess has been anything but, especially along the LB corps. I am interested in seeing how Tim McDonald does as the safety coach. If he proves to be a good safety coach, then Jets only need to find competent [Yes, I said competent, as in decent - not great, not good. Just decent] LB coach. Actually, I am not too keen on McDonald's coaching - if at all, Antonio Allen thoroughly shit the bed against the Giant on one play [100 yard TD run] early in the game.] Could be Antonio Allen is a donkey. Could be McDonald is a shit S coach. Or - it could have been snafu. We will see which is which. And... if you think I am speaking out of my ass, look at Jets defense. Jets DL during Karl Dunbar days is night and days from the Jets DL during Mark Carrier days. This DL sure has more studs along the line, but the DL during Carrier days had a few solid players on their own. Competent position coaches matter. A lot. Also, I don't think many of Jets offensive coaching staff stays after this season. Marty will get rid of any under-performing coaches. [Or suggest to do so.] Good organization has to have good owner [I think Woody has been too much of a media whore but I hope he learns], good GM [finally Jets landed one, it looks like], outstanding coaching staff [Jets are sorely lacking on most of the parts, i.e. LB coach, OL coach, WR coach, RB coach] and spectacular scouting department. Most of all, they have continuity - so that, the scouts know what kind of quality they are looking for when they are on the lookout for talents.
If by "being a cop" you mean riding around in a park on a 10 speed in bike shorts, I believe you, too. Don't make me reference the BS forum threads. You are a sorry pretender.
I was kidding Sweetie. Don't be mad. I thought you would know that. And how dare you mock my bike shorts.
