Once the Jets got smoked by the Ravens and Patriots, I knew this team wasn't going to be able to defeat playoff teams. Also, all of those comeback scenarios Sanchez wins in 2010, didn't happen in 2011, those moments (or lack thereof) also affirmed my disbelief.
when we got Tebowed, I knew there was trouble brewing. I figured we'd recover with the slightly easier schedule to finish up the year, and I was wrong.
When did he say they were the best Jets team 'ever'? Can't seem to recall him saying that even a single time in the past 3 years.
I definitely recall him saying something along the lines of that. It was a long time ago, early in the season I believe. I think it was more along the lines of "I feel more confident about this Jets roster than any other roster" etc, something like that. I'd try to find a link but I really don't feel like it. Mine was probably the Philadelphia loss. That's when I got really worried. It was obvious everything was coming close to the wire, we just got beat by a 5-8 team and now we have to go up to the Giants and a Miami team who would love nothing more than to knock us out of the playoffs.
He said this was HIS best Jets roster, he didn't say it was the best team in Jets history. At least I don't ever recall him saying that.
The Denver game this year was a Thursday night, that game is clearly in the sunshine. For me it was the Victor Cruz play. We still had destiny in our own hands and were handling that game to that point. We had them 3rd and 10 at their 1, stop them and get the ball back in good field position there and the whole thing is different. When that happened I knew we were in trouble.
For me the season went downhill during the Ravens game when I suddenly realized the Jets were a hollow team this season. The loss of Mangold exposed a fundamental weakness and the poor play by D'Brick and Hunter in Mangold's absence just said volumes about where the Jets were in terms of talent up front. The two things I recall posting at that time were that if Mangold was out for the season the Jets would be lucky to win another game and that if they didn't find a replacement for Hunter and soon that he'd destroy their chances. The rest of the season were played in those twin shadows for me.
Sorry for not making that distinction, that's what I meant..definitely didn't mean to convey by "best roster", he meant in the entire Jets history.
People picking September games are of little faith. Things change week to week in the NFL, after those games we beat 4-1 San Diego and won at Buffalo when they were 5-2 and all fired up. It's easy to say now that you knew then, but you probably didn't.
I hate the fucking Giants. I left the room when that play happened so I wouldn't scare my kids and my dogs. Thanks for the correct picture too, needed to see it again.
After we failed to put away the Oakland game - in the first half I had never felt so confident that the Jets were going to win a game - then it all just seemed to fall apart.
I think it was the 2nd NE loss. I think after last year the Jets thought they could finally play with them. But after losing to them again, and not doing anything on offense, it was almost like they took a step back. I think the team lost confidence in Sanchez at that point and simply never recovered. They had some nice wins after that, but I think that loss showed them that they were not an elite team and could not beat an eltie team, and it was downhill from there.
The Oakland loss was bad, the Denver loss was brutal. And through all that, they still had a shot until week 16.
