The franchise tag is a beautiful thing.

Alot of teams lose great players due to the franchise tag the following year...

We need to lock up Leon BEFORE it comes down to that point and in my eyes, Leon could have a 14-1500 yard season on the ground behind our o-line with about 10-15 TD's... He's worth every penny that he's going to be expecting and I dont think he's going to be asking for an INSANE ammount of $ (As of right now) And thats why I feel it's important to get Leon locked up ASAP...With all of this Thomas Jones BS going on, who knows how many carries TJ is going to get this year for us? And thats the reason why we need to lock up Leon right now... Lets get him locked up long term (BEFORE he actually takes on the role of a starter) That way...We can sign him for cheaper because believe me you...If Leon gets over 1200 yards next year as the (Feature back) with about 10-16 TD's on the year... He would be asking for L.T type of money next offseason,.

Get it done ASAP, thats all Im saying

I made this thread over two months ago, and still...The Jets front office has yet to step up to the plate and sign this talent.

I've been against the Thomas Jones for Edwards trade since the day I heard about the rumors and thats only because when Thomas Jones has a solid O-Line, he's a productive back, but now that I'm thinking about the future of Leon Washington and the Jets, it just goes to show me how little I really care about the 31 year old back in Thomas Jones. I would be sick if I ever seen Leon in a Patriots, Dolphins or Bills jersey.

Make the trade for a #1 type of WR who's only 26 years of age in Edwards and offer a 3rd rounder along with Brad Smith because I'm really starting to feel confident going to war with Leon Washington as our #1 back here in 2009 with Shonn Greene as our rookie talent. Jet fans may be right, Thomas Jones has no future with this Jets team but if the Jets front office steps up to the plate, and locks up Leon Washington long term, Leon will.

Now that I'm looking at his numbers, Leon looks like he can be a Westbrook type of #1 back...A really solid back. And it's horrid how Mangini refused to give this explosive back rushing attempts over the years. Westbrook is listed as being 5'10/203 pounds and ever since I've seen Leon rush the rock during his FSU days (My team) I always thought of "Westbrook" and Leon is listed @ 5'8/202 pounds. He's short but he's far from a "Small back"

Leon only rushed the rock 10 or more times twice last year. Sad.

Rams, week 10: 12 rushing attempts, 54 yards, 4.5 average yards per carry with 0 TD's.

Miami, week 17: 10 rushing attempts, 60 yards, 6.0 average yards per carry with 1 TD.

Once again, in 2007, Leon only rushed the ball 10 or more times twice.

Miami, week 13: 10 rushing attempts, 68 yards, 6.8 average yards per carry with 2 TD's.

Chiefs, week 17: 11 rushing attempts, 67 yards, 6.1 average yards per carry with 0 TD's.

In 2006, his rookie year: Leon had two games with 20+ carrys and he made the best of it!

    Jaguars... 23 rushes, 101 yards, 4.4 average, 0 TD's.

    Lions... 20 rushes, 129 yards, 6.5 average, 2 TD's.

It looks like Leon can handle the work load. In those 6 games where Leon rushed the ball 10 or more times over the past 3 years, he's wracked up...

86 rushes, 479 yards, 5.5 yards per carry with 5 TD's during those 4 games where the coaching staff gave him the rock 10+ times.

His numbers may not be that great as the feature back because he would be the #1 back instead of the change of pace back, but still...Give Leon the ball 15-20 times per game, and I could see him rushing for 1500 yards with an average of about 100 yards per game.

To make a long story short...Lets give this talent a solid 5 year deal (Until he's 31) with about 7 Million per year. 5 years/35 Mill. If we allow this man to have a great year this year, he's gonna ask for L.T type of money once he's proven. Like I said 2 months ago, we need to sign him ASAP before we cant sign him at all
