Trading up should really only be for QB's and even then it's iffy. I think the Giants might well have won a Super Bowl with Rivers instead of Manning given the other talent they gave up in the deal.
What do we do this offseason? First off we fire Tannenbaum and find a "Football" guy to be our GM/Direct of Player Personnel. Then we draft: -A QB -An explosive RB, slasher type -A LB -A Safety -A right tackle If we don't want to invest in a high QB draft pick, then we still need to draft one in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. We also pick up a good free agent veteran QB to compete for starting job. That's it for now.
Pass Rusher! Pass Rusher! Pass Rusher! I can't bare any more games watching the opposing QB drop back like it's a 7 on 7 drill. No more of this bringing 7 guys just to pressure the QB, we need to invest in a rush linebacker. We've postponed this need for years, enough. After that I'd work on the O-line and try to get a playmaker either WR/RB in the 3rd round or so. Don't think going QB when we have so many other weaknesses is a good idea.
As much as I hate to say it, I think we should keep Sanchez and build a good team around him for the next 2 years, if he hasn't improved, then we draft or sign a FA QB. Unless we get a good trade offer... Draft Priorities. A pass rusher. O-line. Safety, although Wilson would better here then at CB.
Draft should be focused on offense. The Jets need a big time impact playmaker on offense. I know there are holes on the defense, but this team has many more holes on offense. If the Jets can put together a good offense it will also put less pressure on the D and keep them off the field more.
I have to somewhat disagree and here is why. We drafted two receivers in back to back years and running backs in four straight years (Greene '09, McKnight '10, Powell '11, Ganaway '12) If anything this team needs to just develop the players we have now. This team needs a veteran receiver and veteran runningback. Let the young guys play behind the vets until they are ready to contribute. The only offensive draft picks should be for adding depth to the o line.
We obviously have holes on the offense, but I think over time as we develop these young players it will get better. We need to draft a RB early on if anything. That's the biggest hole on our team. Teams can play the pass all game because they know we can't rush on a 3 man rush. We need a quicker RB that can rake it on the inside and is a threat on the out. On getting another high pick receiver I don't think that's a good idea at all. Receivers take longer to develop in the NFL level. Lets develop the two young ones we have now and get a vet to help out in the mean time. Ad long as we have a run game, that pushes the safeties in a bit to play the run and this is where Hill comes in. If they play the run he'll burn em if they play they play the pass our new RB can take it. This opens up the play-action which is where Mark has been at his best.
i would do the same thing that i already said in another thread: fire tannybum, badway, and bring in an entirely new scouting staff. heck, you could sit at the draft table with kiper's guide and draft bpa and not do worse than those clowns did the past four years. fire sporano, sutton, and cavanugh. bring in a guy like dennis green, fassel, and run the wc offense again. start mcelroy, use tebow in the wildcat for entire series ina game, and see what you also have in sims. draft bpa and look to stockpile/accumulate extra picks instead of trading away. adpot the pittsburgh approach- don't put too much money in any position, and if a guy wants too much money, let him walk. stay away from high -cost free agents. develop your own guys, and pay the ones who show results, within reason. the jets should be sellers before the trade deadline, to get extra draft picks. cutting pace, scott, and some others to free up cap space. trade sanchez if you can get a skelton or decent pick in return. at worse, cut him if he plays like he has been, and eat the cap hit like shanahan did in denver with brian griese. send a message with actions, not words.
The Jets should keep Sanchez AND draft a real prospect behind him. We're kind of in the same place with him that the Chargers were with Brees. The difference is that Sanchez does not have LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates helping him out. If he did then his numbers would look a lot better.
As bas as Sanchez has been theses past couple of games, it can't get any worse, right?......right? We should stick with him through this season. His contract forces us to. He'll probably be here next year too for contract reasons. If he doesn't improve, he's gone. If he becomes a top 10-15 guy, keep him around. As bas as he has been, I don't think he is solely to blame. If we do have a top 5 pick, it will be gard to pass up a guy like Geno Smith (who I absolutely love). Draft like this.. 1. OLB (Jarvis Jones would be amazing) 2. RB (Laveon Bell? probably 1st round guy) 3. ILB (Micheal Mauti is someone I really like) Late rounds should be BPA all the time. It would be nice to see a QB taken here. Logan Thomas has struggled and I'm not really seeing him as that early round pick some people are anymore. He hasn't exactly impressed. Maybe him in the fourth? I would love to pick up Dwayne Bowe in the offseason. I'm not sold on Holmes as a #1 and he certainly has not lived up to his contract. If we don't sign a WR, we should stick with the young guns and let them develop with Mark (if he is our future). Is there any chance we look to sign Umenyiora or Freeney at season's end? Probably not.
I think he strongly implied that they were of similar talent levels, but Brees had better players around him. I'd disagree as Brees just passed Unitas, and Sanchez passes around hot 18 year olds.
This sounds great actually. I really believe in letting a new QB sit for some time before throwing them in the fire. I never thought of this idea, but it would let us ride out with Sanchez but still have some hope and something to build around
Absolutely love this idea. Let a real, young QB with potential sit behind Sanchez. This way, whatever hope some of us may have in Sanchise either be shown to be worth it if he turns into the QB we all need him to be, or if he reassures that he's absolutely hopeless, we bring in the new QB who's had time to learn and see how he does.
Bray doesn't have mental toughness. He is as broken as Mark when it comes to that. I see it every Sat. However, he can throw a good beer bottle.
