yeah because, as we all know, all first, second and third round picks always pan out.

They do usually stay around for more than a year though. Would Favre?

If it was straight up, I'd say a 3rd. However, the pick HAS to be conditional. If Favre plays two years, i wouldn't mind giving up a 2nd.

I said second rounder. You can't give up a first because the chances are still too likely to have a crappy year even with him, and if we did that and didn't have that high #1 looming it would be the worst of the worst.

I voted for a second round pick before I checked the results, and whaddya know? Most Jets fans agree with me.

So much for my detractors, who think I am a nut.

Anyhow, like Steve Serby? I am all for signing Favre.

    Serby rules. OK?

thats exactly what I said in the lengthy Farve thread.

conditional based on 2 things, we make the playoffs, and Farve comes back next year with us.

i said a 5th if we dont go to the postseason, and he retires

4th if we go to the postseason and he retires/ no postseason, but returns

3rd if we go to the postseason and he returns (or we win the Superbowl and he retires)

2nd if we go to the superbowl (maybe AFC title game, just to get it done) and he returns

1rst if we win the superbowl and he returns.

I would do that deal in a heartbeat. Jets have no fears here. If he retires, we give up at most a 3rd(if we win it all, i'd give a first for that) or if the season is a bomb, we give up a measly 5th. The deeper in the postseason we go the more we give up for Farve if he comes back, but then again the deeper we go this year, if he returns, we become big time favorites next season.

I think that it's the smartest deal to make for Farve. The packers get the potential first rounder they want, most likely will get a 3rd, and maybe a second. So we are protected in a one season deal for farve, and the Packers have the potential to get more than they deserve for farve. Win- win IMO.

And I can't imagine the Jets spent a shitload of money this offseason to wait another 4 years for a QB to develop. I'm with you. Get Favre and try to win now.

Let's see. We gave up a 2nd for Clemens who may never play again. Hard to say Favre isn't worth whatever it costs when you have that to compare it to.

Doesn't matter now, deal is dead, BUT if the deal were still going through, I'd give a 4th rounder and a player or a 4th and a pick later but NO WAY, NO HOW am I giving up a 3rd rounder or better for a 38 year old qb.

Just think about it, you give up a 1 - 3 rounder for a player who as he gets older his abilities diminish who may play 1 or 2 more seasons, heck no, just would not make any sense.

Spending the next two years with Pennington or Clemens (at least right now) at the helm would make no sense.

For all the "great" moves the Jets made this offseason, they ended up sabotaging themselves for not solidifying the most important position on the field.

    I got to agree

I've been saying the exact same thing, but have been attacked by Chad fans and Clemens supporters.

I love Chad, but... His injuries have been a bit much for us Jets fans to expect a whole lot from him, doncha think?

PS I would love to be wrong.
