i don't want to spend a first round pick on michael turner. I'd rather use our second round pick on a guy like brian leonard or michael bush. I big back that will really compliment leon's speed. Hell, maybe put one of them at FB and run a two back offense and really get some versatility from the FB position. In this day and age it's so difficult to get a franchise back like an LT or another curtis martin. And NFL teams today really utilize a two back offense and make it work such as atlanta. My dream draft for the jets would be (in order of preference) 1st round: tank tyler, levi brown, justin blalock 2nd round (a) lamaar woodley 2nd round (b) brian leonard, michael bush
Not only do I question Leon's ability to run up the middle and endure 300+ carries a year, but he is a subpar pass blocker, which got him in the doghouse numerous timesthis past season. We need a workhorse who can hit the hole w/ power and speed, yet can also be dependable in blitz pick-ups.
Iv always been a real supporter of Leon's Plus any RB That burns the Dolphins for a game winning run is O.K. in my book.
i think he would be more of a complement as a third down change of pace slash screen guy he's sort of like a dave megget type of player. and i dont think he could endure the beating of a every down back. also leon doesnt push people back after contact if you get a square hit on him he ends up going backwards on the majority of plays i seen from him this season
Maybe Leon will develop into a feature back, but I haven't yet seen enough from him to anoint him as such. Yes, improve the o-line (and the D-line, which needs even more improvement), but don't stand pat at RB. Add some guys and let's see what happens in camp. Adrian Murrell went over 1,000 in 96 and 97, and that didn't stop Parcells from getting Curtis Martin in 1998. This team needs its version of Curtis Martin, and if Tangini has someone in mind, I'm all for them going after him.
I think we could bring back Lamont for cheap and he could be our featured big back for those short yardage situations.
Westbrook averaged around 220 touches and went up to 310+ touches, and he proved to be a dominant runningback. We can do it with Washington, we just need someone like Houston to hold up as an adequate backup. We won with a runningback by committee and a crappy offensive line. We can win with a good offensive line and runningback by committee. If we draft or give up a high pick, it'll be the same situation when the Jets drafted Blair Thomas. Blair Thomas wasn't that bad, Bruce Coslet had several decent runningbacks on the team that could've split time though.
What are the chances of Curtis comming back? Did he make it offical? Stranger things have happened...
Only Jordan sucks in short yardage. Martin was our short yardage guy, despite the fact Jordan was thirty pounds heavier. Jordan is simply a spell back. We need to stop tagging him as anything different.
The problem I have with Leon is that if someone get's a hand on him, he doesn't seem to be strong enough to break free. Sure he can mage people miss, but he's not gonna wear anyone down. If anything, I would guess he would wear down faster from taking the hits. I want a bruiser. Leon has his place on the team, but I don't believe he can fill the role of an everydown back. Been wrong before though.
Which is why I absolutely would die if we drafted, Tony Hunt. I disagree though. I thought BT was horrid at the next level, and I blame the curse for that. Damn curse...
I completely agree. Which is why picking up ahaman green or chris brown is the better option then drafting one or michael turner. Both can fill in now sharing carries with leon then in 3-4 years when either brown or greens career is dying down washington will be ready for that every down back role.
I really don't see how anyone can say whether he can or cannot be a feature back in this league. I think he's proven that he can produce when given the opportunity, both inside and outside the tackles. No, he doesn't push any piles or run anyone over but he can hit the hole hard and get yards. When he did get 20 or more carries a game in his rookie season he put up impressive numbers. Without seeing him take the full load over the course of a season, I think it's impossible to say whether or not he can. Judging by what the CS has said to the media about their RBBC intentions, who knows if we'll ever find out. If we're going to continue with RBBC, it seems like we definitely need to upgrade the other back.
I don;t think he can be OUR starter because he just doesn;t run hard and strong enough to carry the ball 25 times in a game. There were a few times this season when I saw Leon have a ton of space on the outside but he was brought down by a diving DEs forearm, where Curtis would haev broken that half-assed tackle attemot and run for 20 yards. Up the middle when Leon gains yards he isn;t bouncing off anyone, he is untouched. He is useful but I can't see him as the premier back. If we can gain 100 yards/game on the ground with multiple running backs, then RB by committee is fine by me.
while the NE lb's have decent size they most certainly arent a very fast group which is exactly why the Colts TE's put up over 150yds recieving against them. Lack of speed from the LB spots is a huge reason the Pats lost that game. I agree that we need a talented rb that can do a good job of wearing down defenses
although I believe Washington can be a very effective starting back, it seems to me that the coaching staff really wants another rb in the mix to compliment Washingtons skill set. I would be fine with having Leon as the feature guy, but it doesnt seem likely
