We need fans who will understand that it takes time to groom and develop players. We need fans who don't jump on the wagon of SB winners one week then are calling for everyone to be fired next. This essentially will eliminate the loser mentality that this team carries. If fans are patient and let the team groom, and the front office does its job, the loser mentality goes away on its own. Patience is needed. I honestly get depressed being on this site when the Jets lose. Yeah it sucks that they lose, but what people type on here seriously makes me sick .
The only way we will make a run in 2015 is if Rex Ryan is part of that. Adding quick fixes isn't the long term answer and firing one of the best head coaches this franchise has seen isn't either. If you fire Rex Ryan, not only do you lose this dominant defense he is building, but you have to completely start over from scratch again. Not only does it cause you to take steps backwards, but any chance you have of developing young talent is thrown out the window, especially at the quarterback position. A guy like Geno needs to grow in an offense similar to where he began. Marty calling the plays and Rex Ryan running the team. When you start changing pieces, it becomes very hard for a team to remain at the level they were at when those said pieces were in place. Players on this team love playing for Rex. The defense is flourishing under him, which has been a HUGE part of our success. You can't fire a guy like that because he was given the shit end of the stick with Tanny here. This offense is lacking talent severely. Any coach you put in there will have the same or worse results until weapons are added. What he's done so far is phenomenal. Take a team with a terrible quarterback to back to back afc championship games and then take a new team with a rookie qb, who everyone counted out, and be at 3-3 going into week 7, is unheard of. You don't just throw that away. That's a common case of finding someone to blame when there's no where else to put it. Draft offensive weapons and build around Geno with Rex Ryan at the helm. That's the best thing this franchise could do.
We need a DC, OC, and a HC. Right now we just have 2 out of 3. We haven't had a good HC since Parcells.
Our biggest problem historically has been that the Dynasties in our own division (Brady - Belicheck, Kelly-Levy , Marino-Shula) have only left a few windows where we could make a serious run without getting shut down. It is hard to go 15-1 when there is a top flight team handing you two losses every year. Also, we always seem to shoot ourselves in the foot and make a critical mistake or mistakes down the stretch when victory is in our grasp. As far as our current problems it seems obvious to me. Our recent run of defensive minded coaches have left us without any play maker on offense that is capable of scaring anyone. Sure we have had our share of bad picks but when you use most or all of your top picks on defensive players it is very difficult to build a competitive offense, much less a dominant one. I think Rex has been the worst offender on this one.
The defense sucked yesterday! The secondary was the pits. We had no outside passrush! Ben did what he wanted; when he wanted! DICK LeBEAU outcoached both Rex and Marty. Coaching counts! But I agree we need better weapons on Offense. We must get better weapons on defense too! IMO the team came out flat after a big win on National TV. The HC gets the blame for that! For some reason MM did not get GENO into the flow of the game early. I could not understand his game plan! The first 5 plays were run plays.
Spot on, first thing you have got to get Smith into a rhythm, running the ball every down early on, did not help Geno by any means.
The defense obviously didn't dominate Pitt but they did give the offense a chance to win by getting them the ball, especially in the last, so I don think you can give them too much grief on this one. Pitt played a pretty conservative offense for the most part which saw them do enough to take the win (4 field goals and only one TD, lots of short pass plays etc only a couple of really big plays the 3rd and long conversion at the end of the 1st quarter and the TD play). I agree with that - I thought MM's play calling was brilliant last week but was quite poor today. It's like he was trying to pull out as many trick plays as he could on the first two drives. It was definitely a bad call not to let Geno throw a couple of passes early to get into the groove although as the commentary stated they may have been trying to let him get a look at the Pitt defense first.
You obviously completely missed the point. Picking one game where the defense didn't do so well isn't the smartest way countering a response. Say what you want about the secondary but this defense is second best in the league right now and is within the top five in sacks. I don't give a shit that the defense had a bad game yesterday. If your offense can't get into the end zone, you will never win. If you think our defense was the problem yesterday, you're delusional. Our problem was Marty being very cautious and not letting Geno throw it. By doing so, when Geno was put into a situation to come from behind, he made two bad throws that cost us. Had he been throwing the ball all game, those two bad throws may have not happen.
A decent QB - the only one we have had in (close to) living memory was Chad and he was limited and injury prone.
I might get critizized for saying this but i think the problem stands on woody,he tries to make this a profit business instead of a team to win. The dude is a great business man no question with a great ability to make money, but he puts his nose a bit when it comes to certain decisions that dont belong to him like the Revis trade( not saying it wasnt the right thing) or the Hire GM keep Headcoach cuz 2 years contract ( not mocking Rex). We need a owner that just lets go and is not worried about money, he is worried also to keep their fans while his goal should be to win in first place.
Herm - Santana Moss, Thomas, D-Rob, Vilma, no pick Mangini - D'Brick, Mangold, Revis, Gholston, Keller Rex - Sanchez, Wilson, Wilkerson, Coples, Milliner, Richardson They guys who brought talent on the team were picking on the defensive side of the ball mostly. Mangini had a deep draft his first year and an offensive line that had collapsed in 2005. That's why his first draft was good. He had picks and no-brainer choices to make. Every other draft from 2001-2010 revolved around trade-ups or reaching for need. The two exceptions were Vilma in 2004 and Gholston in 2008. Those were no-choice picks one of which worked out and the other didn't.
Rex and Marty were scared of Dick LeBeau. When you have a rookie out there that's a good place to be.
Everything has already been said. IMO this team has a solid foundation already in place. They need to stick with the plan and continue to build through the draft. No more quick fixes. I hope Woody is patient enough to stick with Rex. Between Rex and MM we have the right combination on offense and defense. It's all about hitting on their draft choices and hoping that Geno pans out.
You move heavan and earth dammitt!!! and get an all pro jump off the tape WR, no get two and a basketball star turned Nfl tight end like Gonzalez, Gates, or Graham, three players will make you a every year playoff team.
