If Geno can't beat out Sanchez he has no career potential. And that's why I listed so many. We don't know which will rise to the top and which will falter yet.
thats asinine, he doesn't have career potential if in his first 4 months as an NFL player he plays slightly below a level of a 5 year veteran? god forbid he needs more time to get acclimated to the game and let things slow down for him, since thats likely all that him losing would mean. its more of a delay than a sign he can never prosper in this league. And no, "but he can't even beat Mark Sanchez!!1!1!" doesn't work, he's still more used to things than Smith, so its not far fetched for him to be a little further ahead AT THIS MOMENT than a player at the dawn of his career. this competition is about salvaging sanchez and seeing if Smith can take the reigns immediately or if he needs a while to gel.
If Geno can't honestly beat Sanchez then obviously he's not the answer. The issue is who decides if he did or didn't, and can that opinion be trusted? If Idzik forces Geno into the lineup undeservedly (or at least without letting the Chize crash and burn one more time in the regular season), we're probably going to be searching for a new GM in 2-3 years anyway. No matter how much Geno plays on Saturday, it makes more sense to start the Chize against Tampax Bay. Give him a few weeks, let him fail, and then Geno can go in later in the season.
sat will tell us a lot about where he is so far ... if he can't beat sanchez then he is not ready to be an nfl starter ... YET key word is the last word ... the game slows down for these young kids at different speeds luckily, MM is a good person to have in charge of helping get Geno ready to take over
I disagree. Geno hasn't had all that much time to prove himself and hasn't had many live game reps. To dismiss Geno's entire career because he can't immediately beat out a 4 year vet while nursing a tweaked ankle is silly. Geno might not do it right away, it could happen mid season. There's no reason to rush the kid or jump to conclusions about him based on limited sample size.
they also had no run game until they decided to put tavon back there out of desperation ... geno was facing 8-9 man coverages on damn near every play
