If Evans get past Tampa then Buffalo should jump all over him. Id love ffor the Jets to trade up for either of those guys. But if we had to "settle" for Cooks at 18 then Im fine with that also.
Joe & Evan said that there are rumors of the Jets trading up, but NOT for Watkins or Evans. I didn't get to hear them expound on this idea because it was a teaser before the commercial break and then I couldn't tune back in. Anyone got some info on this, or is there a thread that's been discussing it?
I feel (or maybe just hope) that this is the way it's going to go...if there has to be a trade up at all, that is. IMO the only guy worth trading up for is Watkins and the cost to trade up into the top 5 or even top 3 would be so high it takes away too much value to make it worth while. I like OBJ but not on a trade up. If he goes early who cares? Even if Cooks and other WRs go early who cares? It means someone really, really good is going to drop to us which is great and we can just draft a WR in the 2nd or 3rd as there are lots of really good options this year.
I hate this. You would think that the extra time would provide teams with a better chance to evaluate their prospects, but it also just seems to create an outbreak of second-guessing and insignificant scrutinization. Hopefully, they don't go forward with this new schedule.
When it comes to trading up , Evans at 7 or 8 is better value then Watkins at 3-5 or Beckham at 8-10. Especially when you considering compensation going back to the other team. The best thing another team can do is not give Houston that "RG3" type haul that they are looking for with the number 1 pick. They do that and the price to move up will be so ridiculous no one will want to.
Surprise is right. The person that can figure out how Idzik thinks must be pretty good. Based on last years selection, which is the only draft we can go by, he did not go by need but the the highest player valued by Jets. A week ago he told us it's based on their grading system. If the Jets "covet" a certain player then he will use some picks to grab him. If no one is that "valued", he sits at 18. Trading down, on the other hand, means you give up your spot for a ton of lower rounders. So in this case, all of his "valued" players are not in the popular top 10-15 ranked players by fans/media and he finds them in rounds 3-7. I did not get a Math degree from Dartmouth lol but I assume he has run a number of contingencies on his computer and with others what to do on the 8th.
I didn't hear it, but my guess would be Mack or one of the OTs. Either option would upgrade the team now, even though they're not huge immediate needs, but also sett he team up much better for the future than just about any other position.
I think Mack is out of range for a trade-up. In what range is Barr supposed to be selected? Also, Bill Polian was talking highly about that OL (think he might be a Guard on UCLA; has an unusual name that I can't accurately recall right now). But I can't imagine Idzik would feel the need to trade-up for any OL position other than LT.
True, but the TV show critiques have taken a hit : ) These last minute (useless) teasers are clowns combating their ennui during this nadir period of pre-draft speculating. Throw anything against the wall at this point--however stupid--and it will still stick and get a reaction: - Lions rumored to trade up from #10 to pair Watkins with Megatron! - Jets possibly trading up from #18 to snare Dennard away from Steelers?
Rapoport reported it was Beckham, they're apparently very high on him. Won't be able to sign 12 draft picks so might as well trade some
Oh ok, thanks for confirming that. I gotta say, though, that I disagree with your opinion about the picks. This Draft is stacked at some positions that pertain to the Jets needs. Which means, it might be a great idea to allow someone to fall to us whose availability at #18 wasn't expected heading into the Draft, and then the needs can still be addressed with the numerous picks.
It's called an exaggeration. I don't see Idzik trading up for some reason, it just wouldn't be worth the cost of doing it plus there are a lot of other good WRs in this deep draft. No need to sacrifice picks. Just let it play out and grab the best WR or CB available when the time comes. Maybe we can convince Watkins to post some twitter pics of his junk or smoking a blunt to bring his value down so we yoink him at #18.
None of us know what he will do but if there is that one guy they really want badly they will do what it takes.
Someone needs to fucking sedate Goodell. He just can't stop himself from tinkering for the sake of tinkering. He's driving a 1500 horsepower Bugatti and all he wants to do is squeeze 5 more hp out of it over and over til he breaks the damn thing.
I sure hope not. James Dolan did the same thing with the Knicks and look how that worked out. I don't think it's worth the risk to trade your future for a guy that might not even pan out, so to do it for a draft prospect is even worse. The Knicks did it for a known superstar, so it's a little different, but overpaying for a player in a trade is a sure sign of a shitty GM. You don't just break the bank because you desperately want somebody.
