Williams Enunwa Powell not too excited about much else (yes B. Marshall is a very good player (prone to serious brainfarts), but the end is near)
Everyone loves Williams but I'll tell you, some of the piss poor attitude his fellow d-lineman show is starting to rub off on him as well. Once Williams is engaged by a blocker he doesn't fight it off anymore and if the play is on the other side he doesnt bother trying to chase anyone down.
Yes, there is a big difference between 6 years and 2 years, but Rex had enough success and showed that he could improve in some ways at least, and was popular and entertaining. Do you really think Bowles has show enough, really anything that makes you think he will develop into a quality HC or deserves a 3rd year? I don't think coaches should get a certain number of years arbitrarily. They have to show that they are learning and developing, that they can manage the game, develop good game plans, make adjustments on the fly, and develop the young players that the GM brings in. Further, the team has to show that it is developing; improving; playing smarter and more cohesively; not beating itself with penalties, sloppy play and mental errors; is prepared for games and is a tough out. Bowles can't claim any of those things. Just like with older players, I'd rather cut my losses a year early than a year too late. Bringing back Bowles next season would just waste next season and could stunt or ruin the development of the Jets young players. If he has lost Mo, Sheldon and potentially others, then that will be a cancer that will spread. He has to go imo.
I didn't see any evidence of that last night, but didn't really zero in and focus on him. I did see a lot of hustle effort, penetration and great plays made when the rest of the Jets' D was dogging it.
What is the point? Why should anyone go 100%, and risk a serious injury? The season is lost, the head coach is a moron, and Sixpatrick was the QB. These guys shouldn't be busting their ass on the DL when the CBs play 12 yards off the ball and can't even cover an infant bear crawling. Watch Wilk, or Williams break a leg, tear an ACL, achilles, etc. No point in risking it when this ship is 98% sunk and the DBs give up catches to any and everyone all game long.
I understand where you're coming from, but imo a HC, DC or GM cannot allow that type of thinking to pervade a team/organization. If it does, they're screwed. Bowles isn't probably going to get in their faces and punish anyone, and at this point even if he did, I doubt if any of the players would take him seriously, but he has to try. If he doesn't try or even if he does, and the team doesn't respond, then that is the definitive proof that he needs to be fired and doesn't deserve a third year. Unless Bowles is just a complete and utter moron and pussy, I can't imagine that he wouldn't rip into the team today. Supposedly he did last night early in the game on the sidelines. If I'm him, I'm benching Mo, Sheldon and Revis. I'm telling any and all that if they don't bust their ass and try in practice and the next 4 games, that there will be massive fines and quite likely a number of players cut or traded to the Browns. I would try to salvage my pride at any rate and not be a complete embarrassment and failure. If the team has given up and quit, then their union rep or a player rep needs to be elected to go to Mac and Woody and tell them that Bowles has lost the team, that they have no respect for him and that he needs to go.
They should go 100% because they are paid professionals. And they are also more likely to get hurt playing soft then they are playing with effort.
