None of those guys were brought in here to be superstars. The idea is you build solid depth in free agency and don't give out huge contracts to overrated players. If you bring in garbage players and the team has some bad games those garbage players make things worse. If you have high quality players then they can fight through bad times. They aren't going to fix this team in free agency. They are going to build up the lines through the draft and when the liens are good and the salary cap is in check they will spend money in free agency. Coleman and Bowens would look a lot better with solid players around them.
I, for one, think the Jets rather NEED some guys on defense who are willing to step on peoples face. The Green should be mean.
I like the idea of signing a NT on a short term contract. Not necessarily AH, some aging veteran like Grady Jackson would probably a better choice. Then we don't need to pick a NT in this draft no matter how good or bad the options are, and can instead pick BJ Raji in 2009.
Please name one player that Tanenbaum or Mangini has said they passed on because of character. Then name me one non-character guy who is likely to go to the Pro Bowl this year.
Well, Mangini wrote off even taking a look at Grady Jackson when Atlanta released him.... There are only two possible explanations for that... A) Extreme stupidity on Mangini's part B) Character issues on Jackson's part I'll wager on B Non-character guys in the Pro Bowl? Just a few who have been there before: Rodney Harrison, Shawn Merriman, TO, Randy Moss, our very own Justin Miller, DeAngelo Hall, Larry Johnson, Jeremy Shockey, Lance Briggs, Sean Taylor
Not sure how that is relevant, but anyway. ESPN also has him at 325 as does sports illustrated. Not sure why it's so hard to believe.
Does anyone who has ever seen him in uniform think he is anywhere near 325? He's gigantic. The Pats would never release his real weight, they have no reason to. And how would espn or an other website know how much he weighs? The guy is in the 350 range easily.
you got a point. if you think about it. some of the best 3-4 defenses are extremely deep in the tackle and end position. Just look at what Parcells did with dallas and what Cower did in pittsuburgh. its a plug and play defense that in essence doesn't tire out. so now that we got all these "plug and play" players, we gotta find the starters. Our defense is a team of subs that would perform great if we had the right starters in place. p.s. In no way shape or form am I calling David Harris or kerry rhodes subs. we do have some studs on our D already and i like what i see from revis.
They play a 4 - 3 D in Tennessee but this guy is such a beast all we need him to do is to plug the gap and keep the linemen of D Harris who is a beast in his own regard, this kid is all over the place. I Haynesworth can convert to a NT in the 3-4
Haynesworth couldd be the answer at either Nt or one of the DE spots. He's pretty stout at the point of attack and has good height/weight.
There's a suggestion I hadn't heard, and I like it.... As a 3-4 DE, Haynesworth could be a force.... It's rare to find a guy with the height to play DE, who can also get that kind of push from that position.... Now that is an intriguing idea
He was playing very well last year up until his suspension, and came back even stronger after it.... I don't think this is a flash-in-the-pan type of deal
All I can say is, we better go into the off-season willing to spend some $$$ on FA's because I don't think we can make up all the ground we have to in 1 or even 2 drafts.
