stop crying? We couldn't stop the run last year and we couldn't run the ball last year. We still don't have a real 3-4 nose tackle. Robertson does not demand a double team. Is Harris that much of an upgrade over Barton this season? Maybe down the line but not right now. We still have two undersized guards in Kendall and Moore who rarely if ever push anyone off the line of scrimmage. We still have Clement at RT who is a decent pass rusher but imo a horrible run blocker who does not create leverage. So we've added a stud cornerback which is nice, but when teams are running for 150 yards a game against us again is the cornerback going to make that much of a difference? When Thomas Jones is getting 20 carries for 70 yards because the guys in front of him suck are we going to be talking about Revis and Harris? I really do like Revis and Harris I just don't like the idea of trading multiple draft picks to move up in the draft. Historically 50% of draft picks don't pan out so the more picks you have the less risk you have. If you draft two players and one of them is a bust all we get from this draft is one player (excluding the 6th and 7th round picks)? It's nice that we got two players who should be very good nfl players. But if we can't run the ball again is it really going to make a difference that we have Revis and Harris?
For me I worry that this team is still awful in the trenches and very little was done to address it this offseason. I worry we are building a team with no foundation. It's clear we are building the back 8 on D but that's not going to be enough to move this team forward.
Let's not crown Blanton yet, there is a reason he hasn't made the starting line-up yet. As yes those are other options, but we didn't have too much luck with late round picks, UDFAs, etc. when Bradway and Herm were in charge. Didn't really work out too well, and that is why the line is in so much trouble. And no one is cryin. It is a legitimate criticism. The fact of the matter is, one of the biggest needs going into the draft was improving the right side of the Oline. Yes by trading away day one picks, the FO got 2 solid defensive players. But in the process were not able to upgrade the run blocking, on the first day, which is important. The FO made a decision, and I am willing to have faith and see, but criticism in this case is not unwarranted.
I agree partly with what you said.... I, as a Jets fan, am nervous, especially now knowing that the Pats have improved themselves. Everybody has talked about how Revis was the best CB in the draft. Well I haven't seen what he can do against quality NFL talents,so as far as I'm concerned the jury is out. I have seen what our FO has done this winter and spring, and their performance can be best described as underwhelming.
Ok. One more season down the drain at worst. I somehow see the logic though. There will only be 53 roster spots, most of which are filled. It is not even like you can replace all 10 spots you draft year by year - so having 3 legitimate starters out of a single draft seems like a bargain from that perspective. And well, look beyond! This FO did trade away picks, but it did address pressing needs, in a way no other franchise has done this draft. We still hold all 7 picks next year, and we will know by then if we really need NT and OL help. I would still think NT is a glaring need, but then I don't work up there so that means at best nothing. If anything, we will know, going into the draft, we will only have to bolster both sides of the trench, nothing more.
great post DBJ I feel the same way, the fact that people are somewhat upset over these trades is ridiculous. The front office went out and got the guys they wanted on defense and who will work in the system well.
We don't even know they got what they wanted. I doubt very much they did. They got what they could. They tried to trade with Houston for the #10 pick. Take my word for it, that wasn't for Revis.
I think it was...While I would prefer Carriker, I think they thought the Bills were going to take Revis.
I think the only reason why everyone is bitching is because how the Pats ended up after the Draft. They got Moss and extra 1st Rnder next year. People prolly thought that the only way to counter that is drafting 6+ players ... Im happy with the draft and i still want the jets to go for Thomas ... that 370 lbs CartWheeler
I thought Carriker all morning. Tonight I think it was for Willis. Then they would have taken a CB in the 2nd round, probably still trading up for him. Willis looks like he will be a mainstay for years to come.
