I'm with you. I like the idea of putting a fiery, wily old leader like Westhoff as the HC, and hiring a couple of excellent, proven coordinators to work under him. If Westhoff's job is to know his players, and get them to go balls-to-the-wall for him, while providing oversight for the coordinators, in the way that only someone who's been around as long as he has can, and tying all the strings together, we could have a real winning formula...
Please interview Westhoff and then give him the job. We've had lots of coaches with fire in their belly and lots of technicians over the years but only Walt Michaels and Bill Parcells had both going for them, since the merger at least.
Nothing would make me happier than seeing Westhoff yelling and shaking his cane menacingly at a ref. Please make it happen Woody.
If his health is stable, I think he'd be the best person to take over this mess and turn it into lemonade.
Best of all he'd take his cane and beat a player over the head with it if they screw up. Unlike Manidiot who stands there looking stupid.
Belichick was an assistant special teams coach with the Lions (1976 and 1977) and Broncos (1978). Vermeil began his NFL coaching career as the special teams coach for George Allen's Rams. Frank Gansz was arguably the best special teams coach of all-time. He was the Chiefs head coach in 1987 and 1988. He would later coach the special teams for the Super Bowl champion 1999 Rams. John Harbaugh was the Eagles special teams coach earlier this decade.
If Joe Paterno can coach at 95 years old...then why would Westoff not be able to? plus I'd love to see him beat the shit out of Brian Thomas with his cane.
I for one prefer Westoff over any other candidate mentioned so far, as a matter of fact. He brings the passion always, and players love to play for him. He also knows how to make the most out of his team (be it limited to ST) - if Woody helps him with good OC/DC pair, maybe we've got ourselves a winner in Westoff
I think the players would absolutely respect him and he could be an incredible leader. But, i think the jets will need good coordinators because i am not too sure of his football knowledge in terms of X's and O's and the nitty gritties. I think he'll really have to rely on the coordinators to call the plays etc.
Same here. I always just assumed if he wanted a HC job he would have already got interest from around the league by now. He's the best at what he does, and there is no better judge of young talent on your team than the ST coach. Hasn't he served his dues by now? Time to change me sig...
They really need to give this guy an interview. I can't believe they haven't yet, theres no reason why he shouldn't at least get an interview.
