This whole conversation is much ado about nothing. People were saying this same shit last year when the Panthers were 7-8-1 and won the division and hosted a playoff game. It turns out the Panthers are actually a pretty good team as evidenced this year. 1) Winning the division needs to be rewarded. (Your division opponents are basically the only ones playing the same schedule, so other comparisons are apples to oranges - IF you have the best record out of teams playing the same teams, you belong) 2) In the case yesterday did it matter that Houston had home field, the better team still one - so giving the division home field really didn't affect the playoff outcome. Skins are hosting GB today, GB has a better record, but just about every "expert" is saying the Skins are the better team right now. There are many problems in the NFL right now. The playoff system is not one of them.
It'd be a bi*ch for tiebreaker scenarios unless you staggered out the conference games so that everyone plays an equal amount...say you have AFC A playing three games against teams in AFC B and AFC C each and six games against NFC A, AFC B playing three games against AFC A and C each and six games against NFC B, AFC C with three games each against AFC A and B and six games against NFC C, that way once every two years you play a conference team if you mix up the games randomly and every three years you play an NFC team. Plus geographically where do you place every team? I guess you could keep the AFC East and add Jacksonville (to give it another Florida team) and Indy (reuniting the old AFC East), keep the AFC Central plus Tennessee and an expansion team, keep the AFC West plus Houston and an expansion team. For the NFC you could keep the NFC East teams plus Tampa/Carolina, the NFC North teams plus New Orleans/Atlanta and the NFC West plus two expansion teams? The thing about the four team divisions is they are mostly geographically sound atm.
True so true But rethinking the points made here this: However the chips fall in the future as to how the rules are constructed, dont really care that much other than to debate We only have ourselves to blame...I say bring on all comers for our Jets good bad or shitty team knock them in the teeth...dont be a loser and dont add to it with shitty coaching please 47 and counting
don't tell giant fans that they are in the "best division in football"bunch of fuking morons some of those aint fans are are.
I miss the days of 6 5 team divisions, you just can't do it any other way with 32 teams. The bottom line is the Jets got swept by the Bills and lost to the Texans, can't really justify them being in either
Could even do it like the NHL (except with 6 teams). Top 2 from each division make it. Then the last two spots can be claimed by a team in either division.
