The Jets eventually made up the 17-0 deficit by scoring 17 of their own. So the Marshall fumble literally cost the Jets the game. I agree though, let's just move on. Brandon is a great WR.
Um, we are the team that brought the world The Butt Fumble. And that not only can be searched on Google it has its on section on YouTube.
You're not gonna see the Patriots or Packers pull this kind of shit. And no, we don't expect perfection out of players. But that doesn't give them a free pass to act like total morons. We're not talking about a fumble here, or a missed tackle, an interception. Those things happen. He just gave the ball away. It's no different from DeSean Jackson tossing the ball back to the field before he crosses the goal line. It's idiotic.
I can play the stat game too he had 2 touchdowns all of last year. This is the guy that had problems catching the football, but you want to give the sexy comment "he lead all rookies in catches" Considering there were what 3 TE's taken in the first two rounds. Come on many sensible people, included myself would agree he had a disappointing rookie year. Jeff Cumberland farms had more TD's than him.
I don't disagree what Marshall did was idiotic. Most of the shit I've read on here doesn't even mention that. If that was Geno or Fitz that all that we would be talking about.
Some recent rookie TE numbers Rob Gronkowski 42 catches 546 yards Jimmy Graham 31 catches 356 yards Tyler Eifert 39 catches 445 yards Zach Ertz 36 catches 469 Amaro's numbers aren't far off from those guys.
Don't move the goal post and don't play stupid because I was not saying he's as good as the players I mentioned.
That play was eerily reminiscent of the Santonio injury/drop, and numerous TOs by Geno and Sanchez where they try make more out of a play than what is there. Although Santonio's was caused by an injury where he arguably gave himself up, the Geno/Sanchez TOs often came from inexperience and a lack of poise. I'm really surprised that a veteran like Marshall would even think about an improvised lateral to ... Cumberland in that situation. If it had been Kerley, Smith, or a RB, I guess I could understand wanting to make a play, but Cumberland? What a boneheaded play. And calling Amaro a bust in this thread is just plain stupid. He had a solid rookie year on a bad team and then got hurt. I have no doubt that he can be a solid receiving TE in this league if he can stay healthy.
Jace Amaro definitely contributed as much as the above players to their respective teams. You're right.
hahaha. I remember hearing Parcells once saying that you have to avoid losing games. That was his mantra. Then we had Herm saying you play to win the games. Until he got to Heinz Field in the playoffs and did not trust Chad to complete a 5 yard pass and make the FG easier.
No way was it designed. It was a bad gaf by Marshall. I do think the future of the NFl will have more lateral type passes similar to the way backs: fly half, centers, and wings play in rugby. Dangerous high risk, high reward laterals. Similar to hook and ladders or a team trying to score points at the end of a game; but better rehearsed. Who knows...? eventually 1st down's will probably be after 20 yards.
The sad reality is this team was spoiled for so long with Westhoff running special teams. He turned pretty much everybody that returned kicks into Pro Bowlers. Granted, the league has diminished KO's into a non-entity. For so long you knew the Jets were going to be better than virtually every team that they lined up against on ST's. Punt returner hasn't been an actual weapon since Santana Moss's glory days. Leon was probably the best one we've had since then. If were drafting I would target the best PR/KR still available with a late round pic until I get one. We see it every single week that we are absolutely in a defensive posture fielding punts. Yesterday at least there was forward progress from Kerley, baby steps...
