You're exaggerating because you don't like to give Brady any credit. Say the pass was behind him and leave it at that. It was not "terrible". Terrible is a pass the receiver can't get his hands on. If that pass was terrible then where does it leave you to go for an adjective for a truly terrible pass?

GREAT move by NE getting Amendola and w/ the deal they offered him vs. what they offered Wes I think that tells us an awful lot.

It's not a throw and catch Brady/Welker make often if ever. All the other times they connect for passes in the air over 20 yards, it was Welker getting it in stride.

"The correct answer is both players are at fault. It’s a catch Welker should make, and it’s a throw Brady should have made much easier to catch to a wide open receiver."

the pass was more than catchable, it wouldn't have taken a spectacualr effort to catch the ball. It was not a great throw but it wasn't a bad one either, he should ahve made the catch. Welker does not have the greatest hands and had 2 key drops in their last 2 postseason losses.

Doing a 180 in mid air after a full out sprint is definitely not spectacular :breakdance: I mean seriously dude. I know it's impossible for you to criticize your hero, but that throw was terrible and had Welker made the catch it would have been a SPECTACULAR play.

Welker also had many key catches and made many key plays in those games.

also dropped the biggest pass of the game so it makes those other "key" catches a little irrelevant.

There would have been nothing spectacular about the play if would have made the catch. It should have been made. you may need to see it again:

You were telling me the Jacoby Jones catch with the ball that hit him in the chest was difficult and now you are saying the Welker catch would be nothing? I think you might need to run some routes in the yard and try these catches. Welker's catch is more difficult. Welker had very little time to adjust to the ball. The ball was thrown high and to Welker's back shoulder which isn't very good placement. It would have been a GREAT catch by Welker especially since you know Welker-Brady hadn't made a throw and catch like that in their careers together

I never said it was routine I said he should have made the ctach and what Jacoby Jones did was a million times more difficult than the Welker play where he wasn't near any defenders.

who cares if the hadn't done it before in their careers? that is meaningless, he had BOTH hands on the ball w/ no defenders around him to knock it out. He broke concetration and dropped another one, he drops a million balls a year and has had 2 critical ones in the Pats last 2 postseason losses.

This move has a decent chance to blow up in the Pats face, unless Amendola can step in and give the Pats what Welker did.

My biggest problem is with the way it went down. I think it reflects poorly on the organization that they basically lowballed Welker out when they obviously wanted to move on to Amendola.

I would have rather seen them thank Wes for the great play he's given the team and said it's time for both of us to move on. Of course if they had done that, Welker may have had to play for less than what he got?

Junc, have you tried catching a football like Jacoby and Welker did? If you have, the Jacoby catch is easier than the Welker catch. It's awkward to catch it like Jacoby did, but not more difficult. You get 15-20 yards to position yourself under the ball and slow down underneath it. You also get the benefit of squaring up to the ball. The Welker catch is a lot more reactionary. You have only a couple seconds/yard to adjust to the ball and you have to jump backwards against the grain of your movement to try and catch it. He made great play on the ball to get his hands there but he was spinning and it slipped out. That Welker catch is more difficult than Jacoby Jones' catch. Try playing a couple pickup games to see. The only part more difficult of the Jones catch is mentally. You have all the time to think about what happens if you drops this but the catch itself is easier than the Welker catch.

It's really interesting, they have never completed a pass like that before and had a similar misthrow and drop earlier in the year on a very similar play. It lends me to believe that we shouldn't expect Welker to catch it (since he has never done it before) and makes you wonder if Brady is comfortable with that read and throws since they so rarely run it and had a similar misthrow earlier that season.

Obviously not under those circumstances but in a similar way? absolutely, the Jones catch was MUCH more difficult having been so far behind his man then having to come back for the ball while the defneder was catching up to him then avoiding both making a move and scoring vs. a twisting catch where Welker was wide open w/ no threat of a hit or a defender distracting his line of vision.

did Eli work on the helmet catch to Tyree befroe that play? or the pass to Manningham? that is just an excuse, he had BOTH hands on the ball- not fingers or finger tips both HANDS fully on the ball. That ball needed to be caught.

What do you mean about the last comment? You think if NE said "thanks we had a great run, but we are looking to get younger" Welker wouldn't have gotten 12 for 2 from DEN? I think he would have gotten the same amount.

Is there any prior connection to Amendola through McDaniels or Bill?

First point, you are acting like Jacoby had to suddenly stop to catch the ball. He had 15-20 yards of uninterrupted run to look, locate, and adjust to the ball. It's much easier coming back to the ball when you can settle/slow down under it. It's much harder coming back to the ball running fast with no slowdown time like Welker was. Add in Welker had to twist against his movement, much more difficult where as Jones could slow down and rotate and square up to the ball. Physically, Jones catch easier than Welker's. Mentally Jones catch is more difficult just because you have time to think about what happens if you drop it.

    1) The throw should have been much better.
    2) It was impressive that Welker got his hands on the ball. Once he got his hands on the ball, he should have held on.

Do you agree with these two statements?

I'm guessing they knew where the Pats offer was and upeed it. Who knows if they would have offered him that much had the Pats not already have had a number on the table.

The best offer may have been a little less.

He had to stop, come back and avoid the defender then after catching it get away from 2 guys and score.

Welker did nothing out of the ordinary to get his hands on the ball, there was nothing impressive about getting his hands on the ball and he should have caught that ball.

Wes welker rarely catches anything more than 7 yards off the line of scrimmage. He took an atrocious route to that ball. A professional wide receiver with no defender within 5 yards of him just cannot let that hit the ground.

The getting away and scoring is not part of catching the ball. Maybe that's where our disagreement lies. I'm just talking catching both passes. The Jones one is easier to catch.
