I get your point here but JSN would not have been WR5 on this team. Highly likely he would've immediately been WR2 on the depth chart behind only GW. At worst he would've been WR3 behind GW and Lazard.
i was a little perplexed witht the pick at first, but now i'm seeing it more in a positive light. I didn't think we needed another WR (JSN) and a DT, although a need isn't as sexy. I hope this guy can take on Kwon's role (more so LB/DE), along with rushing the passer. We do need LB's other than Moses and Quin (no faith in those "big" Safety's turned LB's we drafted). Whenever we pick in the 10+ range in Rd 1, i always get it wrong with what "I" think the team needs. I'm hoping for the best available versitale OL in Rd 2, but won't be surprised if we go S or RB or something unsexy (less needy) like that. Either way, i still think we got pants w/ the AR trade (spec. 13/15 swap and 2024 conditions) but that's all in the past now.
We were talking about walking into camp, and as much as I would have jumped and celebrated the JSN pick that’s what he would have been.
Cimini , love him or hate, has more insight info than anyone here Rich Cimini Jets knew there was a chance theyd miss out on top OTs once they flipped w/ GB - downside to Rodgers trade. McDonald was high on their board; he wasnt a last-minute, panic decision. Went higher than most draft experts expected. Eventually, well find out who was right.
My bad, you were talking about game specific DL rotations in the post I quoted so I assumed we were discussing how the depth chart would've looked on Sundays.
No I was still talking about walking in to camp. I’m assuming that JFM moves inside for good. EDGE4 is more valuable on this team than WR 4/5 because of the way we play.
I'm not too concerned about the depth chart during OTAs or TC. JSN would've eventually been WR2/3 on this team and that's probably more important than EDGE4. I like McDonald though, so hopefully he works his way up the depth chart and balls out this year.
Like I said I’d have loved JSN I just can’t be all that upset we passed on him. If we can find a way to pick up another pick and we somehow get Hyatt? Victory.
LOL!! I love this argument. Because Douglas has an "entire front office" working on and preparing for the draft, they must know what they are doing and their decision is always better than "arm chair GMs" Right? Because Douglas has assembled a huge team in his draft room with so many guys there, they must be smart and who are we to question them? Right? Uh, this arm chair GM posted on this message board many many times before and after the 2021 draft that Zach Wilson would be/was a bad choice. This arm chair GM noted that Wilson had only one decent year in college and played a creampuff schedule that year. But, not to worry, according to you how could I or Ouchy or SOJAZ know as much as THE ENTIRE JETS FRONT OFFICE!!!! As you say "give me a break", right? And even with Zach's terrible 2021 AND 2022 performance, you must believe we should probably resign him to many more years because he had the approval when drafted of THE ENTIRE JETS FRONT OFFICE!!!! Douglas has now ran 4 of the jets drafts--In 3 of them he has wasted the jets first round pick--Becton, Zach, and McDonald. One the jets best beat writers Rivka Boord labeled McDonald as a "major reach pick that brings back the label 'Same old Jets.'" I'm with her on this one. You can keep on defending the jets ENTIRE FRONT OFFICE. We should give you a break, right?
Wouldn't have been my pick, but it's hard to argue against DE in the first round. For the record, I would've taken JSN because we only have 2 WRs under contract for next year. Watched some film this morning. When he lined up the outside in the "9" position, he looked extremely difficult to block. He reminds me a lot of Thibs bursting oof the line of scrimmage. He's about 15 lbs lighter but does have longer arms. He dominated the Senior Bowl 1v1 supposedly. This is not a LUXURY pick. This is what good teams do. They are not only picking for this year, but also next. I understand that people don't love it, because I don't love it. But to act like this is a diaster before even takes a pre-season snap is absurd. When we are up by 2 TDS in the 4th quarter, these DEs are going to be fresh and relentless.
So you can have an additional edge rusher in on 50% of the snaps, factoring in 40 pass attempts and maybe 30 obvious passing situations. So he plays 15 obvious passing snaps a game because of our rotation. Or we can have the fastest on-field player in the draft with Rodgers throwing him the ball. Sorry, but the luxury pick argument makes no sense when comparing the positions.
I get that you like to puff your chest out and make sure everyone remembers how you felt about Zach Wilson prior to the draft, but can we at least give McDonald a chance to produce on the field before you label him a "waste of a 1st round pick"? Dude hasn't even gotten to 1 Jets Drive and you've already labeled him a bust. Is it too much to ask that you actually wait and see how he plays on the field first?
Send your resume in and get a job in an nfl front office dude. You’re an elite talent evaluator. Go on.
Most definitely. He’s bragging about ouchy — the same guy who said we should go into 23 with Desmond ridder and that devanta smith is Jerry rice.
Amen to that. The guy will be an immediate contributor on passing downs, particularly this year, when we might have the lead in the fourth quarter a lot more. Not to mention the dude can ball inside and outside against much bigger studs. They had to hold him a bunch and still got loose. Lawson's replacement is officially in.
Nah, as you say, the entire jets front office is smarter than everybody. How did you say it...we all owe YOU a "break" right, dude?
