Just watching the replays. Brutal drop by Marshall. That's a TD and an 8 point lead. And giving up a first down on 3rd and 17 was unforgivable. _
Can we feel any sense of optimism with Mangold knowing he walked off on his own and even smiled heading to the sideline?
OR Bowles uses one of his THREE timeouts, gives us 2:30 to work with at the end of the first half, we MAYBE score a TD, then Marshall's drop doesn't make as big a difference.
This is why people all over the country hate Patriots fans almost as much as they hate the Patriots. Coming on an opponent's forum after the game is over to praise your team. Classless. I changed my mind. I hate Pats fans more than I hate the Patriots. Congratulations on being a douche.
Did anyone else have a total meltdown today? I completely lost my temper in my living room -- haven't done that since the 2010 AFC Championship Game versus Pittsburgh. Was throwing shit, I ripped up a magazine, was cursing nonstop at the top of my lungs (this is why I like to watch Jets games alone). It's odd because I was expecting a 10 point loss or so early in the week, then as the game got closer, I felt increasingly calm and confident that we could win. So maybe my increased expectations made me lose it...but it was there for the taking...lead in the fourth quarter, the potential to go up 8 if Marshall catches that ball. Oh well. I'm over it already; New England is the best team in the league. Beat Oakland.
I told my wife, who's a Patriots fan, not to talk to me about the game as the only ending of that conversation would be divorce. So we talked about Shakeology and Beach Body. Crisis averted.
For what it's worth I thought it was a really well played game and for the most part evenly matched. It's tough to remember with not much more than 10 minutes to go it was the Patriots 3rd and 17 from their own 20 with the Jets up by four. Patriots offensive line was awful run blocking, decent against the rush. I didn't see a whole lot of blitzing but it appeared they picked a couple up. Receivers did a fairly good job of getting open but I thought the Jets played a pretty soft coverage, Patriots receivers weren't challenged getting out into their routs at all, that was the biggest surprise to me. All things considered I'd consider the Jets offensive line the biggest area in need of improvement. Jets threw the ball well, fitz really looked prepared and he knew where he was going based on the defenses he was seeing. Receivers got open and had some nice size match ups and made some plays an blew some plays. They wasted a lot of time trying to run the ball. I thought the offensive line had some mental mistakes and came off their blocks way too quickly, especially on screens. Decent job holding down the rush though. The crossing routs killed the Patriots who like to just keep everything in front of them. Oddly they were more aggressive than the Jets were. Conservative game, but you have to admit the coach put the players in a position to go out there and win it. Not a lot of mental errors or penalties. It could easily have gone the other way. Jets are never easy but you guys seem built for some consistency this time around.
Again, thanks for the compliments. You guys are pretty classy coming here after a win and not rubbing our noses in it. Nice analysis. Hopefully, Jet Fans can stop with the circular firing squad now and move on to the Raiders next week. I'm pretty sure Bowles has.
Really worried about Nick. We have a lot more pieces on O this year, but in years past when he's not in the line up, we have been gutless.
forget who reported it but yesterday I heard on the radio from one of the reporters that it was obvious Mangold was in A LOT of pain in the locker room. (he emphasized A LOT). He said injured players don't have to be interviewed so no one spoke with Mangold directly but he was grimacing a lot and it was obvious to everyone around he was hurting a lot don't mean to piss in your coffee on a monday morning just relaying what I heard
I read neck injury on PFT...that doesn't sound good. Who knows...? but I think he will be held out for Oakland.
Couple of added observations after watching the game a second time... 1st half Ivory's first carry...looks like he has plenty of room for the edge, but just stops for some reason? Fitz loses the ball trying to change hands, horrible start for the offense. We are leading the league at losing the football in the 1st quarter, with Houston (7 turnovers) Wilk bust through Patriots RT for beautiful sack HB screen is still ugly...for years we fail to execute this Decker stiff arms the shit out of some poor NE Db on his first catch for 20 Decker should have had that deep bomb on the next throw...got fingertips on it. One step out of reach Ninkovich is a bitch (seriously, this guy was all over the field in the 1st half though) Ninkovich drops a pick in the end zone...very lucky. Belichick fakes like he is going for it on 4th and four (gay), than calls out his punt team...forces us to leave the D on the field, although we are able to get Kerley on for the return Ivory back on the field, looks fine (should have been in for the goal line work of the last drive) Fitzpatrick when scrambling carries the ball in his throwing hand, does not tuck away the ball A bunch of Fitzpatrick deflected footballs at the line of scrimmage...3 already in the game. The Pats VRoooooooommmmmm sound on third down is lame Decker killing it early...3catches 52 yds 1st quarter Kerley shifty for a huge conversion on 3rd and long Fitz takes huge shot in the back scrambling for end zone Jets just dominating Time of Possession and total offense, through 1st quarter and change "World premier of Super Girl is just one day away" Kerley TD dance...awesome. Personal foul on the kicking team (Jets) low block...? Gostkowski hits the field goal 13-10 Pats 2:00 and 3 time outs....we should get this. "Average starting field position so far New England their own 40...New York Jets their own 17" (HUGE disadvantage for Jets) "Fitzpatrick leading rusher so far with 21yds." Marshall huge catch...off of PA fake to Ivory...Jets move the ball into New England territory
I agree that it was a good game, but I disagree that it was well played. I think both sides left a lot on the table, which is especially uncharacteristic for a Belichick coached team. It was a pretty even matchup when both teams had off days, so I'm eager to see if it'd be the same when both teams play well. Hopefully we find out in December, or maybe January.
