What talent? We are talking about replacing a potential bust with a 37% winning percentage. It may not take a lot to be better than that.
The biggest tell will be if they sign anyone at all. if we don't hear any workouts over the weekend we know where geno stands for sure
Totally agreed. As much as I am done w geno if fitz tanks it up first month I'd like the option of smith to be on the table. I don't think geno sees the field until after the bye regardless. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well if he's back by game one (which is doubtful) it could win him back some respect in the Jets locker room. But Bowles has to go over this incident with him in detail. And explain to him how you deal with your teammates, talk to people, diffuse potential conflicts. Which is part of the job of leader of the team. Not sure you can teach this guy anything, because like Stokes has been saying from the beginning, you can't fix stupid.
Think about it though. Was it necessary for him to dodge IK's camp for whatever the reason was (I've read initial reports of a family death to a cousin hurtin his arm falling off a bike), without letting the guy know at all? Then dodging him over what would be $20 to me or you? And then to have the audacity to confront the guy and start arguing with him over it. No one's right in this situation. But he's definitely not without fault. Everybody's supposed to like the quarterback, not have issues with him. He put himself in that situation by being a cheap douche. Many guys have said locker room fights start over twith primary things: money and girls. I don't want my quarterback involved in either of those arguments.
Very interesting.. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/20...for_jets_on_friday_source_c.html#incart_river
My issue with this is bowles can't teach him how to be a leader and cannot break down the incident so he understands. It's a truly unteachable trait. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
He has to try. Because if they want him to be their starting Qb this year or in the future he has to stop the stupid stuff and relate to a team that might have locker room issues. Some of the players already said they thought he asked for it. They could just have been IK's friends or dumbasses. Bowles did say he talked to players before he cut IK>
Fitz is nothing special but he did play with horrible teams, inflating his losing record, Geno is just plain not smart
That's the problem though. You shouldn't have to teach someone to stay out of fights. Leadership is another quality that a player either has and is born into or he doesn't. You can become a leader and learn it through watching others but I don't really believe it's taught. That and pocket awareness are two things this guy will never have. That's enough for me personally to never think he'll be a guy with anymore than as many turnovers as touchdowns.
Is it really true that Vegas odds for the Jets actually went down when he was injured. That shows you disrespect that even the gamblers have for Geno. Seems like the same in the Jets locker room.
I like it. When your off the field there should be someone waiting in the ranks. If Geno is ever going to start again it will because he beat them out
Geno was probably headed for a positive TD to Int ratio this season. That still doesn't speak to the leadership issue or the ability to get it done reliably enough to be a plus. The QB can't be not the problem. They have to be the answer.
Existing evidence would suggest otherwise. With another year of development we can hope for improvement but we really have nothing to support what you just said.
Usually there's some guy out there who you can squint and see as a winning QB if you try hard enough. Right now there's nobody out there like that. The problem is that too many colleges are running a spread and most of the guys who are available are either failed spread QB's or really bad pro set offense QB's. This has made the guys who can actually play in a pro set a valuable commodity and they're all locked up somewhere in a backup role already. There's no 36 year old Vinny Testaverde available. There's no Jeff Garcia at the end of the string out there either. Kyle Orton is probably the best available QB and he's retired and unavailable. If he came out of retirement he'd probably have 2 or 3 teams straining at the leash to sign him, including the Bills. The Jets wouldn't be in the running because he'd only come out of retirement for a job, not to compete with somebody similar, which is what Fitzpatrick is.
The third set of numbers in this series is often positive: 12-21 13-13 I'd have expected 17-14 or some such as the third set in that series. The problem is the third set needs to be 22-9 for the Jets and Geno to be on course and I don't see that at all.
