He will be given the chance because he has better redzone size than any of the other backs we have. Only time will tell if he gets it done.
Fair enough. I'm not calling him a bust yet, but he's making me lean that way for sure. I've been unimpressed with everything I've seen up to this point. Again, I'm glad he can run through holes, it's a prerequisite of the position, but for a dude of his size I want to see him hitting seams and making holes.
I think this is a little premature. Give him a chance. He's still learning the playbook and getting assimilated into the NFL game itself. I don't expect Greene to be a top 20 HB right out of the gate.
thats obvious since your labeling him as a bust and average at best after less than 10 attempts in the second half of a preseason game. and nobodys calling him the next jerome bettis. and even if one person said it that doesnt mean everyone thinks he'll be that good. point in case, peoples careers usually have to end before you can define them.
The minute he was drafted, I heard nothing but "monster" ..."bone crusher" ..."The Bus" I had to see for myself. I saw an open field run where he barrelled some dude over, but other than that, the offensive line was doing a superb job, so I was a little perplexed where this whole notion came from. He looked pretty pedestrian in his first NFL game. I understand it's preseason, and our line was decimated but still he left me cold. What can I say?
Greene tried running up the gut but there were no lanes to run. That cutback was a nice hole and he hit it and took off without hesitation. That was a positive sign. The other play where he ran into traffic but the entire pile fell forward for extra yardage is what I want to see from him every time. Go get the extra 4 feet by pushing forward and maybe its the difference between a 1st down and a 3rd/4th and short
I really don't have any choice but to give him a chance. I'm just saying what I think. Apparently it wasn't a very popular opinion
See that's cool. If he has good field vision and break to the hole, I'm OK with that. Everything/everyone has pointed to him being a smash the line guy and I just don't see it.
ok his line was good at Iowa. anybody who knows football can see that. so thats sposed to be held against him within his first month or two of taking the NFL field? i guess the Jets coaching staff is there for decoration too. they cant help him get any better. you have your opinion and your entitled to it. i guess what your saying is the O-Line did all the work for him at Iowa. while i agree his line was great. i disagree on your assessment of him which sounds to me you think he'll be average at best.
Am I right 100% of the time? Of course not, and I would expect no less than to eat it if I were proved wrong. Glad to see you're game
Hell, pick one of my "insane" posts and put it in your sig if you want. I'm the guy that thinks the Jets could help their QBs by changing their uniform color
thats fine i wont bark at you for having an opinion. we all do especially on rookies. whats your definition of average though? i'd choose the term "efficient" before i choose "average" but thats your right cause i think he was brought in to be a compliment to leon moving forward. short yardage, red zone, change of pace from leons running style. does that mean pro bowls and endorsements? no but his running style suits the MO of the kind of offense Rex Ryan wants, ball control and efficient in the red zone. will it play out as such? time will tell. i just think most jet fans are excited at the actual possibility of a REAL power back. unlike Jones who is the leagues most jacked up cutback runner.
The guy is a rooke who came out of USC as a junior after only barely more than one year as a starter in college. I guess I'm more mystified that people are surprised that he is inconsitent and still coming up to speed, than I am that it's going on. I really, really think some people hear need to temper their expectations for a rookie QB that only started one year in college. No knock on Sanchez, he's doing great. It's a knock on people who I think may be unfair to him for expecting more. I hope these excited fans + Ryan's commetns are not putting more pressure on Mark than he (or any mortal) might be able to live up to.
