how about the Jets just don't use the 1st rounder on a TE?

True, but if you have one already then you don't need to even consider it.

dude, just stop creating new threads everyday. How on earth would Tony Gonzalez be a CHEAPER option? Don't you think he would want to cash in while he is nearing the end of his career? I promise you he wont be for less than $5-6 mil a yr.

What picks did you have in mind to give the Chiefs for Gonzalez? A blocking TE is all the Jets really need and and they can easily be found in the late rounds of the draft. Not to mention it would be much easier on the cap.

He is good but by getting him you hold Keller back. We just need a blocking TE, let Keller become the next TG or better yet, the 1st Keller.

Here is the best I can muster: This is a terrible idea for the Jets.

I hope you found it useful.

Nah, I Think we pass on Gonzo. He's up there in age and past his prime, We got a great young TE in Keller, We will be more then fine with him.

I think we should just let Keller develop. DUstin Keller will be great this upcoming season just needs to work on some blocking

I will disagree , because we are done with the temporary bandaids and spending young player money on old guy's! We have a tight end and we may finally use him this year.

So, it would cost them 5 mil in cap room to trade him. Why would they do that?

I couldn't see us investing that much money into the TE position after we just drafted Keller. He's won't want to split time with Keller here. Plus he's old and will demand a huge contract and probably a 3rd or 4th round pick. No way

We should pick up a blocking TE via the mid/late rounds or free agency too.

Something tells me that we're going to draft a TE much earlier then we expect... Where would I get that idea from?

You suggested the idea, then said he would be cheap. If you are basing it on his current contract, being that this is your thread....then you present that info.

You don't make the argument for why we need him either.

Dustin Keller........is Gonzalez a blocking TE?

Over the hill stars are for teams that think they are one player away from the SB. Bringing guys like Favre or Gonzalez to the Jets delays, if not ruins, the development of our young players and then after a year or two of disapointing play they are gone.

Well, not quite. His $4 million contract number would come off the books, and his $5 million prorated numbers would go on. Your point is spot on, though. There is no reason to tack on $1 million to the cap number to lose your best player.

Aren't the Chiefs really far under the cap that it really wouldn't make a difference if they trade him?

Yes, but the question is, WHY would they trade him?
