Kris Jenkins penalty was big and he was not that good today and also Sean Ellis so it was not only Vernon but Vernon was bad.
Would have been nice if we had started pounding from the get-go... The run defense is not the Saints strong point, the secondary and pass rush are. We played right into their hands with this gameplan of having Sanchez throw when he did not have to.. Thomas Jones averaged 4 yards a carry and holes were being opened.. Leon Washington Only got 4 carries? Wtf is that. Nothing demoralizes a team or a crowd like a good strong running game, and we did not follow that plan... Some of those 3rd and shorts? Why not try the seminole? You can have Washington and Jones in on a Wildcat style offense I'm sure against a smaller front seven that you can pick up 1 or 2 yards? The play calling had a binary outcome, either feast or famine and we got the short end of the stick, this team needs a conservative smash mouth offense, it just fits the personality of this team overall.. As a Ravens / Steelers type of team..
The lack of running game contributed to their pass rushing confidence, you gotta run at those DEs and wear em down so they dont blitz as often.. Run some draws off-tackle with Washington? That would keep them second guessing the blitz?
this thread is a little ridiculous...sanchez made mistakes yes but thomas jones averaging 1.4 yds a carry doesnt help him either...also, is it just me or did our offensive line look confused as hell today...it was like they didnt want to block for sanchez at all, even on 4 man rushes!.. 2 bright spots...our d is for real.. shonn greene is our future at RB...rex needs to give up on thomas and go with leon and greene PERIOD
I sure didn't expect Sanchez to look like Peyton Manning through 4 NFL games, he's a rookie. I'm just only hoping he learns from his mistakes and helps the Jets win ballgames, and even some rings.
Coming into the game, the Saints were 5th against the run, with a 3.2 YPC against average that ranked 6th. Both rankings are higher than their pass ranking, even in yards per attempt against, which takes into account the number of times teams throw against them. They have a lot of interceptions because teams abandon the run when it's unsuccessful against them and go to the pass, particularly when playing catch up late. It's foolish, however, to suggest that their run defense is somehow deficient or not as strong. And while I agree that we should have seen more Washington in the game, we likely didn't give him the ball as much because that smaller front seven is a faster front seven that would likely have more success against our outside running game.
Sanchez had plenty of time on that strip sack when the Saints scored the TD. Ditto for Sharper's pick six, on which the problem had more to do with Sanchez looking down Keller the whole way than a lack of time to check down.
The strip sack was a designed a roll out. It was a combo Brick/Sanchez screw up deal. Brick not holding his guy long enough and Sanchez holding the ball too long. If they switched all would be ok. Sharpers pick, Sanchez reverted back to that first pre-season game. Oh well this shit happens with a rookie.
I counted 4 seconds that he stood in the endzone with the ball. You can't do that in the NFL. Not in the end zone.
Hell yeah, totally agree. He sucked tonight, no and's, ifs or buts. I really want to see how improved he is next week. Right now everything is basically being thrown at him. Sanchez now has a million more things coming at him. Ball security, holding on the ball too long, looking down WR's, trying to do too much etc. etc. etc. In addition to game planning. Lets see if he gets overwhelmed with this much adversity. This could be a great thing looking long term. If he can handle and overcome it, this game is a great learning tool. Try telling that to a bridge jumper right now though.
Its a discussion board! Read my first post. We're discussing.... Oh I see you now get the point.
Not like absolute dogshit, we're not talking rotweiler diarhea, more like poodle pebbles. He had a good 1st quarter, and disaster of a second quarter. Saw some good completions, and a bunch of bad decisions. Let's see how he bounces back next week before making any end of the world conclusions
we did lose the game because of sanchez, but that is what we signed up for with a rookie qb, even one with the potential of sanchez. this was a rookie game by a rookie quarterback. i am very interested to see how he reacts next week. the dolphins secondary is awful and would be a great opportunity to build some confidence. not only could the dolphins game help get him some confidence, but get schotty comfortable with opening up the playbook for him. i understand that today was tough all around. the saints were playing pretty good defense, and it seemed pretty loud in the superdome. playing in the dome also hurt the jets offense because of special teams. the kickoff return game was taken out of the game. leon usually gets us the ball out at the 30 or so. today he never had a chance, and those extra ten yards or so are huge when playing the field position game. all in all im disappointed with the loss, but hopeful for the future. sanchez has a lot to look at in the film room this week. hopefully this will end up as a good learning experience for him. i will be looking for improvement especially in protecting the ball next week.
Great post. I agree with everything you said. Is anyone really surprised Sanchez had a shitty game? Hes a rookie playing in one of the loudest stadiums in the league, not to mention the Saint's D is legit. Did anyone happen to catch Sanchez's press conference after the game? He pretty much stepped up and said he played like shit and its his fault they lost. This is a true leader we have here and he'll learn from the mistakes he made today. Hes gonna carve up Miami's D like a turkey next week.
