It was their season low (#1 offense in the league). It takes a complete game to beat NE because of that offense, the D did their part gm 1. Kickoff TD and safety are unacceptable mistakes that stole that gm from us imo. NEs hurry up did little that day, you may remember RR filed a complaint to the refs that week with footage of how they were rushing the snap to that point. We spent all 2012 offseason on D prepping for their hurry up. The results in the first meeting weren't bad, the D held them to 21 pts and 380 yds including overtime. Their season avg is 35 pts and 430 yds, you don't stop that offense u slow it down and rack up some pts on the other side to win ball games. We didn't play a good enough gm on specials and turned it over too much to win that day. I feel our D under RR will always be able to fuck with NEs offense, now with them losing a bunch of regulars and primed to take a step back, I think Brady is in for two rough gms next yr.
1. Believe in WCO: If Jets offense can carry out good enough of WCO on their part, Sanchez won't have to risk throwing toward Revis; that is, at all times. [I wouldn't mind putting both Kerley AND Holmes - that is, if Holmes is available in the first week - in the slot. Stupid as it might sound, I would put Cumberland on the outside with Hill. My point is, to give an element where you can tilt the scale in your favor big time. Cumberland outside does just that - he can [physically] dominate the puny CBs. So if he can be taught to use his body as a shield in pass plays, he will beat his CBs 10 times out of 10 tries. This does limit the route he will run [most of out-breaking routes are off-limits] - but will that matter? There are other moving parts, i.e. 3 WRs and RB, and his limited routes won't be too much of a problem, as long as Sanchez distributes the ball evenly among the possible 5 releases. Of course, Sanchez has to be wary of the CB assignment. When Cumberland is deployed outside at first, I doubt if TB will assign #1 CB on Cumberland. Later, if Cumberland keeps hurting them, they will.] 2. Strong ground games. 'Nuff said 3. Hope the defense does their job. [If you ask me, they will more than hold their part of the bargain.]
Week 1 game, Rex Ryan defense, at home for the Jets. They're 50/50 to win at worst. The buzz won't go that way but Rex's Jets are 3-1 on opening day and almost knocked off a superior Raven's team despite having no offense at all in the loss.
The Ravens game we were in full control till a Greene and fumble and a BS special teams flag on Braylon. If one of those dont happen, Jets likely win. Ravens get shutout td wise.
Schedule makers knew the buzz, the schedule is made around drama. I remember in 2010 when Big Ben was suspended 6 games, the Steelers first primetime game was week 7.....and this was before Goodell suspended em. Of course it got reduced to 4 but...
Conspiracy theory says that Goodell encouraged Kraft to pick up Tebow to make Week 2 matchup interesting.
Yeah dude. I wanna know. How will the Jets POSSIBLY beat the Bucs in week 1? I just don't see how. /flashback
LOL no shit. I wouldn't mind seeing the most run-heavy game we see all year. Might be the only time we get to see Ivory and Goodson play together. With a few passes to Kerley, while Revis is otherwise occupied. Sanchez throwing at Revis - and it will LIKELY be Sanchez - would be a recipe for disaster.
Hill wouldn't get off the line cleanly against Revis if Revis had a hamstring hanging out the back of his pants. Send Hill long to take him out of the picture, maybe, but never throw to him while he has 24 covering.
Okay, I know its a "passing league" now, but given the potentially lackluster performances of both QB's (it really doesn't matter who starts) against what should be two really good pass defenses it seems to me the running game between both sides will be the deciding factor. who does TB even have? our defense has been rather suspect on the run but maybe all we needed was some youth, I don't expect freeman to do much at all so this is key for our bread and butter side of the ball. And I fully expect ivory to reek some havoc out there, and give us some opportunities that we may not have from the passing game. Him and Goodson should prove to be very effective early on. Does anybody know what the Bucs have OUTSIDE of their secondary? it might matter most for the sake of a new york victory.
Getting too cute about testing Revis is like testing the Devil. I think there might be an occasion or two where running the big guy deep might make sense but overall the idea is to neutralize Revis' strengths not test them. My humble game plan A) We need a balanced offense with short passes, double tight end sets, strong power runs, lots more sweeps and disguised screens. I think screens and sweeps are a good way to test Revis and the secondary without the risks of an INT. B) The D needs to control the tempo and screw with Freeman's timing C) OL needs to own the LOS D) Our starting QB needs to be functional and avoid mistakes. Nothing fancy at all. E) Our special teams might be a bonus Super early forecast. MacNight 2 touchdowns lead the Jets to victory. 24 to 16 Can't wait
Attacking Revis is stupid. As a member of the Jets week in and week out opposing fans suggested attacking Revis. Revis, won almost all of those "tests." Of all the fans in the NFL we should know that it's not wise to attack Revis.
Sunshiners, are the best. you obviously haven't been on board this wagon very long. TB, has one of the most explosive running backs in the game, which is a little scary since our entire defense just got younger and our run defense was suspect most of the 2012 season. Freeman, has at least one Big receiver to pass to Vincent Jackson?. Our offensive line has not made much noise in the protection or run blocking since 2010. I have a feeling our team will get better as the season goes on, but I expect a fairly shaky start in Tampa. Of course, if we can run the football all that changes.
