Greene's long run was on a draw play, great call against the pass rush. Of course, they only call it once per game.
Except Greene's average was 5.8 compared to LT's 1.8. In a case as dramatic as that get Greene the ball.
Again, that per carry avg. was the result of one big run. His other 8 carries he averaged 3.6. 8-9 carries is not enough to really use YPC b/c one good(or bad) carry can really affect that average.
Even if Greene's long run is removed from his stats. He's still the RB more likely to gain yards after contact. Based on the way Steeler's D was playing, I can't see a RB getting a TD without being forced to fight through a tackle. LT > Greene @ receiver & pass blocker Greene > LT @ power running If Jets wanted LT @ the goal line then run plays for his strengths, not Greene's strengths. Slamming the ball up the middle when the defense has a shortened field & packing the line & expecting run ... those are going to be power runs.
The more I think about this game, the more disappointed I am. I'm excited about our chances for next season, but I still wish we could get another shot at this year's AFCCG. That's the game I want to win, and think we easily could have. Only way we make up for it to me is by beating the Steelers in the same situation next year, which is highly unlikely.
Against that amped up Steelers D we needed our power runner in. Peyton Hillis talked about this in detail leading up to the game. That were about even the first game LT had a longer run so we take those out I guess. SMH Pounding the Ball with Greene wears the defense down, I realize 24-3 doesn't help that situation. Why are we still talking about this? ha
You just said- 24-0/24-3 doesn't help that situation. It's hard to establish a ground game behind big early while the other team is controlling the clock. Their O was doing what our O needed to do in the first half.
Actually, running the ball w/LT, not once but twice in the red zone after 1st downs was just baffling!! Then, Greene gets a goal line carry, gets us 3yds. to the 1ft. line and the rest is history.. Pure comedy.
Yeah, I watched the game over myself. The lack of tackling and those 4 plays were the game. The Jets simply could not force the rapist to beat the Jets with his arm in the 1st half (he was fairly awful aside from a few good runs), and wasted too much time on that series in the 2nd half to win it.
Well, my point was more about how many carries he had. I wouldn't bother tinkering with the numbers. Let's just look at their carries: Greene's carries were: 1, 3, 23, 3, 1, 2, 2, 16 and 1. LaT's carries were: 0, 1, 8, -2, 5, 0, 0, 2, and 2. Between the two of them, there were four runs greater than 3 yards. So, the running game was pretty much ineffective overall. I would still have ridden Greene until his wheels fell off, especially at 1st and goal at the 2.
count me in--yep stuck the bamboo shoots under my finger nails and rewatched it not once but several times---------we could have and should have but we did'nt win this game. The defense was horrific in the first half,,, if only the make a handful of plays/ tackles we win this game------I will never get over this one,,, I still have scars from 98 and 83
WHY???!?!?!? FUCK I'm still so sick from this game. All fucking year we did this shit! Were we saving him for the Superbowl???? Sorry. Had to let that out.
