Alio , You can refute every person who does not share your opinion, and maybe you will be responding to this thread for the next 50 years. God Knows you have about a million posts in here. I am sorry that this subject and this thread infests your life, but I have better things to do. I will be at our next home game. Maybe I will cheer, maybe I will not? Maybe i will leave early, maybe not. One thing is for sure, I will be there and you won't. So enjoy your next game rooting for a team you do not care about. 'Nuff Said.....GO JETS
I kinda think the crowd would be a little different... A little more NEW YORK and a little less joisey. What we're seeing now is the worst of the Jets fans compounded with a horrible lot situation.
Simply, I misunderstood what you were saying. I thought you were saying that I don't "ever" attend Jets games. My fault on the misunderstanding. In terms of other fans leaving when the game is done in everything but being official, I wouldn't have so much a problem with that, if it were the only thing Jets fans did. But instead, it's like a library all game, there's ridiculous huge patches of orange in the stands at kickoff, and when the game still has 6 minutes left, and there's no reason to believe the Jets have the game in hand, a third of the crowd is already on the Turnpike. So we've got a bunch of people who saw this on tv. We've got Dan Dierdorf commenting on it. We've got people who were at the game agreeing with it. Not sure how many times it needs to be said by different people. If God Himself came down from heaven, stood at the 50, and demanded that the crowd actually come to life, I can just picture most fans demanding he be thrown out of the stadium for not buying a ticket.
How? The same people have the tickets, you're saying different, louder people would be there in a stadium 5 miles to the east?
My thing is I would never DREAM of calling other Jet fans' fandom into question based on their behavior at games. Alio not only does this, but he does it from the comfort of his couch. If 17A called me out for being hungover I would be a little irritated but at least I could look at him and say, well he was yelling his face off, and the stadium was a little too quiet this week, perhaps I could have given a better effort. I almost want to invite Alio to next game gratis and make him put his money where his mouth is. Almost. Not sure he'd want to spend a whole game with an embarrassment of a fan like me though. For the record, I believe these things tend to iron themselves out anyway, ie if/when the Jets start to play some ball worthy of being vocally supported, the crowds will get louder. Not an ideal situation (certainly a lousy defense would benefit from loud enough crowd noise that opposing offenses couldnt function effectively all the time) but that's just the way it goes.
Sure - A There's a lot of fans who have tickets who don't go to all the games due to the Traffic and the Lot mess that sell their tickets... The group I was in commuting from LI just gave up their seatsa Altogether and couldn't do it anymore once kids and other obligations entered the picture - Taking a 45 minute train into NYC and having the best stadium in the best city in the world would DEFINITELY make a difference over people commuting to a swamp. You would no doubt have a good % of Manhattan residents who would now look to get into the game. It might not happen right away but, I think you would get more of an attitude at games and it would lean more to a Ranger game frenzy than an Islander game setting. But, this isn't new... I started a thread just like this probably over 5 years ago when I first started posting here about games I was at where the crowd was just embarrassing and more into being at an event than reacting to what is on the field. I think I titled it "NO HOMEFIELD ADVANTAGE" or something like that...
Yup, I did. So did some other people couch sitters. So did some of your fellow season ticket holders. So did Dan Dierdorf. You don't like it? Either stop reading the thread, or stop letting it pertain to you. Those are your choices.
I left when Smith recovered the onside. This new parking bulls#%@, takes me over an hour to get home. I live 10 minutes away, but I stick it out. Maybe i'll start post-game tailgating.
I don't think he meant every season ticket holder...or any ticket holder who posts on this board... nor do I think that... but it's obviously a good portion of the season ticket base where it makes a noticeable difference thru the TV on gameday
I didn't. And that was evidenced by my apology at the end of the first post to anyone it didn't apply to. But people immediately wanted to jump on me for saying what I said. Quite honestly, I have no idea. I am pretty sure I know the people who DO make noise, but I have no idea if every single person that posts on the board makes noise. It'd be nice that all my fellow TGG brothers and sisters DO make the effort to get up for their team, but I can't say I have full confidence they all do. And that's the saddest part. In the fourth quarter of the Skins/Giants game, when the Giants had the ball, the place was deafening. That's how it should sound when the opponent has the ball and is marching down the field on you. In our fourth quarter, with the frigging Dolphags marching down the field, we have to hear Dan Dierdorf comment on the total lack of enthusiasm of the crowd. It blew me away when he commented on Jones trying to pump up the crowd to no avail after a good run. I don't understand why guys can't understand what's wrong with this picture. But then again, I can't understand why people would go to a sporting event and not cheer. The only way I can understand the arguing is if people are offended because they think I called out every single person in the stadium, which I never did. I didn't edit my original post to add in that apology at the end, I planned to write it before I started the post itself, and it was in there when I first hit submit. Whatever though. Nothing is going to change anyway. If people feel like cheering, they will. If they don't feel like it, they won't. Even if I went, I'd be one voice, and probably be told a thousand times to shut up and sit down. Like I said, I just don't understand.
I couldn't agree more...... I just got home to FL (flew up for the game) My cousins have had tix since Shea, but I haven't been to the Meadowlands in a LONG time, so I was excited when they invited me for "Wayne Chrebet Day" A day to honor a fan favorite as well as a hated divisonal rival, I anticipated that place going nuts. Man, was I dissappointed.......Things have definitely changed. we were the few consistently making noise the whole game in our section (lower goaline where most of the action was). Felt like I was at a golf match...... the few people that were making noise did it on OFFENSE?!!??! I've heard much louder JETS support in Miami (I try and go to road games when I can). My cousins were so disguted that the whole time during the drive back to LI they debated whether or not to sell their tix.
there are quite a few factors involved this season too with poor crowd support. The parking situation sucks some mean balls. These people leaving early are probably those that have to catch that shuttle bus back. I don`t know what it involves since I haven`t had to use it, and will not no matter what. It must be quite the crappy shuttle though. I`m sure that has a lot to do with it right now. It`s only 2 home games so far. One game the Jets were blown out, rather cheated out of a competetive game. The Dolphags game is a huge money maker for ticket holders. It`s been that way since they moved to NJ. There are Dolphags fans willing to dish out big bucks for tickets. Show me the money is what I say. There are also Jets fans willing to dish out big bucks too. Again, show me the money. God, I sound like John Abraham. Anyway, Jets fans have been arriving late to the games all the time. This is nothing new. Security lines at the gates are what causes that. I can recall standing on those lines waiting to get in for 30+ minutes sometimes. It`s a bunch of bullshit to be honest. They want to check for terrorists. Well, some racial profiling will certainly ease the congestion at the gates. We all know who they are looking for but they have to be politically correct. Thats BS. Just check the ones who look like terrorists. Yeah, I know, how can one tell, blah, blah, blah. It ain`t rocket science ya know. Jets fans have also left early all the time too. Been like that for as long as I can remember. I always called them "the ones who start the traffic". They probably have no clue where they parked nor any sense of direction on how to get out of the lots. But there have always been people leaving early. There are also some super die-hard fans who can only attend half the game due to work schedules/family obligations. These fans are true fans. I wouldn`t even bother going if I was only able to stay a half game, but yet those die-hards still make it out for at least half the game. There are just so many different circumstances for fans around the NYC metro area. Time is another one. Night games suck for us East coasters. Of course the fans in Oakland, SF, Seattle and Denver, etc.... stay the entire game. It`s only 9:00-9:30pm when their Monday Night games end. Getting home at 1:30am for us Jets fans is NOT what we want, nor do I think any east coast fans want it. The NFL really needs to change this. If the Pats/Jets play each other on a Monday Night, start the game at 7:30pm EST(4:30pm Pacific Time). I don`t see why anyone out there would give a rats ass about the Jets/Pats game anyway. It should all coincide to local time and not pacific time like it does now. Screw the tv ratings. The tv stations will want to carry the game no matter what time it starts. I know they do this for ratings and all but it should stop.
See... I'm NOT so sure about this post. Ask Wayne Chrebet about what he thought of the crowd, and I'm sure youd see the guy get moved to tears yet again. The crowd and the noise and the cheers are there in ABUNDANCE.... when we deem it worthy! sad, yet quite true. Yesterday's game should have been a cake walk... yet we allowed them to make a game of it post 31-13. How is this noise worthy?
One point about people leaving early this season, which I suppose I can see as understandable, is the parking situation.... I am never one to advocate leaving early, and I didn't even think about getting up until the final whistle Sunday... However, when I left the stadium, and I got on line for the busses to the Port Authority, it was disgusting... I waited online for the bus for about an hour, and then was on the bus for another hour and fifteen minutes.... And then of course, I had to deal with traffic heading home on the LIE... I live by myself and have very few Sunday obligations, so I can afford to stay the whole game and bite the bullet when it comes to traffic time.... But I can definitely see how people with families, kids, work obligations etc would want to get a jump on things and get on one of the first few buses home.... With the parking the way it is, there are very few alternatives to bussing, and I'm sorry, but you're not going to fill the stadium with 80,000 fans who are committed enough to give up 2 and a half to 3 extra hours of their day when they have important things to do so they can see the last 15 minuets of a game, that they can just as well listen to on the radio on the way home.... I dunno, I'd never do it, but I really don't blame them...
hey, as far as this thread goes, I can agree on some points and disagree on others. I agree with the noise/cheering factor.....seems a good portion of the crowd doesn't understand that your supposed to get up and be loud when we are on Defense. The noise during the game is sub par...however, I did watch a tape of the game and heard Gumbel and Dierdorf criticizing the crowd noise/enthusiasm several times, once when we were on offense.............so I'll take any criticism of them with a grain of salt Personally I've made it a point to make sure I'm in before kickoff.......but I do leave early depending on the circumstances......and won;t take criticism from couch potatoes who don't have to deal with a potential 3 hour drive home if you don't get a jump on things........and frankly if the team needs me to preserve a 31-13 lead with 10 minutes left in the game, then they should be paying me to go to the games! (even though I admit, I said to my buddy on the way out that by the time we get to the car, I'm sure the game will be close........sadly I was right.
