this is my first year of getting into a share of season tickets..i don't shut up. theres a lot of other people that need to come to the games with some desire to see the jets win
The difference is of course is that the QB issue is one that actually effects the team. As opposed to the crowd noise which only exists in the minds of a few basement dwellers on this site. Oh, and can't forget Dan Dierdorf.
There two words in the team name before the word Jets. Those words are "New" and "York." This means that many Jets fans are from New York. Many people from New York are rich. Many rich people don't give a crap. Therefore, they can buy lots of tickets and not show up, give them to opposing fans, or whatever else they want. Also, in New York you have millions of people on a small island. This creates lots of traffic. This makes people want to leave early even though they would very much like to stay till the end of the game because they have other things to do. Lastly, the reason you didn't hear much cheering today is because there wasn't much to cheer for. When the Dolphins get like 7 consecutive first downs on you, you stop cheering for that 3rd down stop. It's not cuz we're lazy or don't care - it's because the team does not deserve to be cheered.
What? Chad passed for 124 yards today ? that?s a 124 reasons to cheer alone. Couple that with the fact that even if Chad only passed for 53, our genius coaching staff had them beat with brains alone and your post has no merit.
We won the game... but I think we still have to complain about something right...? We can sit there and not make a sound or sleep, we paid for the tickets... Don't say Season Ticket Holders sucks... We empty our wallets to support our team. On the other hand, the crowd did suck today. There were Jets chants all of the place. That scan fan thing for chanters was a bust. I think we need Fireman Ed back. Also, the crowd wasn't loud enough for the defense and offence. We use to be very loud on 3rd downs but now...... Don't say Season Ticket Holders suck... or anyone who pays big money to attend this game. I personally blame this on the Jets, they couldn't bring the crowd together.
The Reason the Crowds suck >>> I have been attending every JETS game since the Early 90's. I got my own season TIX a few years ago and in all the Years I have never seen it as bad as this and I believe I know the reason why. It seems to me the actual demographic of the Crowd is TOTALLY Different than it was just a few years ago. Now When you see the antendees there are a lot I mean A LOT of Younger antendees and Tons I MEAN TONS of Women & Young Girls that were rarely in attendance in the Past. It seems the JETS and/ot the NFL has been reaching out to make the NFL more "Family Friendly" and in doing so created this new demographic. That said, there is nothing wrong with it except it definitely does affect the crowd reactions and overall atmosphere @ the game. It is totally noticable this year so far. There are way too many "new" fans that probably have little interest in the game. I'm sure Fellow Season TIX Holders will agree they have noticed this and it was especially evident today. Add to that the amount of Pats and Dolphin fans @ so far means tix are being sold/scalped at an alarming rate. It is pretty bad folks.
I mut have been at a different game, i thought it was a decent crowd. Not great but decent, it's been alot worse through the years.
You guys can speak for yourselves buy I always stay till the end and make sure the people in my other 3 seats do the same
I love this post and agree with it 100 percent. I was in attendance at the game today too and from my perspective, EVERYTHING written above is 100% true. Chad got a nice ovation when he stepped on the field, and Chrebet's standing ovation was probably one of the best I have ever seen out of Jets fans. Just want to add too that when Chad ran the TD in, it was in my endzone (I sit in section 120) and at least from where I was sitting, it was pretty LOUD. Chad was doing his little fist pumping dance and at least the people sitting around my area were going crazy. That being said, even though it was a winning effort, it was also a disturbing one. Honestly, the Dolphins kicked our ass. The Jets won by not making mistakes, which the Dolphins made many of. That does not make for an overly loud crowd. Like JWWS said, there wasn't much to cheer most of the time. Everytime the Jets did something good, the crowd WAS cheering. The one kind iffy moment was McCareins catch and stay in bounds in the 4th quarter. I understand that everyone wants to kill him after last week, but that was a spectacular play that definitely contributed to the win and keeping an extra 40 seconds off the clock for the Dolphins. McCareins got torn apart by the fans after that catch.
The crowd has been weak all season, just compare this crowd to the Seattle's of the league there is no comparison
All teams have fans that do it. As you mentioned, the Dolphins fans (and I refuse to call them fans) are much worse. Even the Patriots ,except for the noise part, have the same problem. A large number of fans don't arrive at their seats until the game is about 5 minutes old. There were many empty seats with 5 minutes to go in the game, although we don't have the GW Bridge to contend with just Rt 1 just outside the Stadium.
I say there are 45k 50k real fans at the game. To many chicks and kids. September games are like that. Our crowd has gotten lamer every year. I still say crowds get pumped for defense. DId you hear the Giant/Pack game last week. My buddy says it was the quietest he ever heard it. NO DEFENSE. Just march up and down the field.
If someone buys tickets, even if you don't agree with what they do with them, they have every right to do it. Now, I watch the games from my living room, and the original poster is right, it was quiet. The announcers even said so, but you know what, by raising ticket pricesto what they are now, it tends to yield a more corporate crowd, so it's going to be less routy.
The problem here for most fans is the travel factor.A 3 hour game turns into a 12 hr adventure to fans who live on Long Island (Where the the Jets were based for 40 + years). This is where the problem lies season ticket holders give up their tickets to non Jet fans.I go back to when the Jets played at Shea stadium and you could feel the stadium moving underneath your feet when the Jets were making a 4th quater comeback. Now people think twice before giving up 12 hrs of their time. The fan culture is more corporate based then 25 yrs ago when fans had Green blood in their veins. Now with a new stadium that will have more suites and restraunts for the elite crowd the upport of the every day Jet fan will be lessened. This is what Woody gets for abandoning the blue (or green :lol collar fans.
I went to my first Jets game last year when the Jets played the Colts. And the crowd was great that game. I remember when Miller returned the KO for a TD the crowd went nuts. And the last few series of the game when there was a chance the Jets could win, the crowd was really into it going crazy. Watching yesterdays game it was like a different fanbase than when I was there. I couldn't believe it was the same stadium. I thought maybe yesterday was an aberration, but I guess the game I went to was.
I think you are right 100%. I lived all the way on the east end of LI and travel was a bitch. Getting there was fine, just go nice and early. I had to leave no later than 6 am to get there and have my pick of sections without a line at the tolls/booths. Getting out of there is the problem and a huge deterent. You can easily spend a good hour atleast just getting to the turnpike. I remember last season leaving the home opener, having the Yankee game starting on the radio as i left the lot,and worrying about hitting the Yankee traffic passing the stadium on the deegan because i didn't get over the GW til the Yankees were going into the ninth. Thats nearly 4 hours getting from the meadowlands to the cross bronx(what? 4 miles?) Sorry, but that just sucks! I already lived 3 hrs away now tack on 4 hours of traffic and its a 7 hour ride home. Gotta work Monday am and get the kids up early for school. It ruins the experience because you have this shit on your mind while youre sitting there in the 3rd qtr.
I totally agree with that bolded statement above. I never understand why people get so caught up in what others do. You want to yell and scream and "help" your team, then buy a ticket and go right ahead. You want to buy a ticket and get there in the first quarter and leave in the third, go ahead. No sweat off of my brow. And as others mentioned, yesterdays crowd really wasn't that bad, I've seen much worse in my 20+ years of attending games. As for me, I left my house at 6:00am yesterday and returned home at 7:00pm, it is my choice. Most you complaining chose to sit home on your couches, so be it. These threads are definitely some of the most annoying....
IMHO,its the traffic worries and the added parking headache. People don't realize how much worse the traffic in NYC gets each year. It's just amazing. Crossing the bridges/tunnels was noticeably worse each year. A lot of the real fan base comes from LI and CT. Maybe they just are getting sick of it. I don't mean a knock on the fans from Jersey/Penn at all,i'm just saying there are a lot from LI. I'll never forget the crowds at the Denver,GB, and KC games in 02. Wish it could still be like that. Guess Mangini had better put a better D on the field to draw the crowds.
People absolutely have every right to do as they please. It's a free country. That includes my right to tell those who don't cheer to piss off. I love how the argument has gone from "we cheered when they deserved it" to "well it wasn't as bad as I've seen it other times". As I've said, I've gone to some games, and every time I get up and go bezerk, some douchebag sitting on his hands behind me tells me to sit down and shut up. Watch other teams' games. Pretty much ANY other team. The home crowd doesn't just cheer when something good happens. They cheer to pump up their defense, BEFORE the snap. And with so many people saying they get there early, and I know this to be factual, since the parking lot is full early, why are the seats empty at kickoff? No offense to Wayne Chrebet, I loved the guy, but it's sad that he got a bigger ovation than the team on the field that won the game against a hated rival. Even sadder that "fans" are proud of that. Yup, you've got every right to do as you please for the money you paid. At the same time, that shmoe Olbermann wasn't too far off the truth when he named Jets fans the worst in the NFL a couple weeks ago. (And he was right for more than just the Chad injury cheer.) BTW: If the thread is one of the "most annoying" then don't open it. I didn't exactly mask the point in the subject line.
