Didn't you say this was supposed to be a good football conversation? Um, hello? How can anyone take you seriously if you're talking about the Jets DBs like their high schoolers and talking about the Raiders like they're HOFers?

    1. Dyson > Asomugha. 0, I repeat, 0 career interceptions by Asomugha in comparison to Dyson's 17. Asomugha has been in the league 3 years to Dyson's 5 so it's not like Dyson is a lot older then him. Asomugha did have 14 passes defended last year, but Dyson also had 9 in only 10 games. If healthy (which he has been until last year), Dyson is a better #1 corner then Asomugha without question.

    2. Miller = Washington. They both had oddly similar stats and they have both shown flashes that they can be great. Law and Miller split time covering Steve Smith this year and he was held to 3 catches for 34 yards. I'm not entirely sure about Fabian but he likely has shown flashes like this as well because of his speed. If you took kick returning into account, Miller wins this but if it's just soley on defense they're equal players. I have no clue why you're proud because somewhere in this thread you thought Miller wasn't that great... well so far you're wrong because he's been very good in coverage and excellent in the kick return game.

    3. Barrett > Routt. Eh, this was a hard one to grade. Yes Barrett has a tendency to get beat by quicker receivers, but if he's not playing a Santana Moss or Steve Smith he's actually a very good cover corner. When playing a team with a quick receiver (say the Panthers) then Miller or Dyson will get Smith while Barrett would be excellent against a slower possession guy like Keyshawn or Prohel. Routt, like Miller and Washington, has shown flashes of being good and is very hard to judge. But, Barrett only needs to guard the possession types and with his aggresive style it works out perfectly, giving him the win.

Strait is also better in the dime then any Raider CB without question.

Rhodes < Huff. No explanation needed.

Coleman = Scheigert. Both with pretty much identical stats over the 2 years (look it up). Coleman does get beat a bit but he's amazing in the run defense and there is no denying that. Modern SS's only need to stop the run with an occasional play or two in the secondary. Scheigert packs a punch and it does give him a slight advantage, but the players really do play an identical game.

Jeaux, really, you know very little about that which you speak. Get back on the rack for two more weeks or until you think you have learned your lesson.

Facts in a jeaux thread aren't allowed. However heights are weights are encouraged. Oh and everyone on the raiders runs a 4.3 40.

NO smack, Jets secondary is garbage. LMAO You really think A Dyson is any good or J miller. At least your coming around on D Barrett. You can thank J abraham for hiding the fact that your secondary wasn't that great. Jets don't have a pass rush now, and watch how bad that secondary really is. Again we will examine this thread after the season. Lets see how many you posters deny you thought this secondary was great.

Duane Starks at Best will be nickel or dime back. Raiders have their CBs and M Huff who gives Raiders the best cover safety in football.(has CB cover ability- in fact played CB probably best one on either team) Lets see what D starks role eventually is, but you make like this guy is going to be one of the RAiders starters. Jets on the other hand are counting on three average at best Cb's, as your possible starters. (Barrett, miller and Dyson)

Here is D starks scouting report.

    2006 scouting report
Strengths: Has fluid hips, great quickness and outstanding turn-and-run qualities. Hits his top gear in a hurry. Has excellent ball skills and leaping ability. Closes on the ball quickly, and has outstanding range in zone situations.

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal size and power, and gets pushed around vs. big receivers. Can be outmatched in the red zone and in press coverage. Is a mediocre tackler and a liability in run support. Durability is a huge concern.

Bottom line: Even if healthy, Starks is an odd fit for a defense that prefers cover 2 schemes. But he could surprise if the Patriots play more man-to-man.

Yes. Andre Dyson is a very good #1 option and it isn't all in speed. Miller's numbers were identical to Washington's last year (except in the return game where Miller blew him out of the water) even if "Ty Law took all the playing time (as you said)." Look it up. I wouldn't be talking shit about Miller unless you're ready to talk shit about Fabian Washington. Both are corners with a lot of upside... Miller was a better player in college by far but Washington is faster. Speed kills, but if everyone on the D runs a 4.3 it doesn't mean that it's a good defense.

Sounds a lot like David Barrett to me. As I said Barrett is doing to be great in a nickel role where he's not going to have to face the Chad Johnsons of the world so he's not going to be beat. Barrett only looks so bad because he's been in the #1 corner slot when he belongs as a #2 or #3. He'll be fine.

Joe you can give me your scouting report on your boys all you want because I didn't watch every Raider game this year. I watched three, both KC games and the game vs. Jets. In those 3 games, your defense looked real mediocre.

I know what I watched this year in the Jets games, and the way you degrade Miller is ridiculous. He showed great improvement towards the end of the year, and the fact that he is so physical gives him the potential to be a very good CB.

    K. Rhodes is a perfect example of a ballhawk, he is not very physical but has great range and is excellent in coverage. I can see him turning into a GREAT safety.

Coleman is a smart guy, but he might have been a one year wonder we don't know yet. He's not fast or big, so he'll really have to work hard to improve.

Time will only tell with Dyson, he was pretty good with Tennessee, but had injury problems in Seattle and I heard he was released due to attitude problems and salary. We got him pretty cheap, low-risk move for us.

I'd like to believe all that you say about your troops, but you also tried to say Sam Williams would be a standout LB last offseason, you said Kelly would get double-digit sacks, you said Sapp would turn it around. And don't give me your injury excuse, cause if you want to talk injuries where do you want me to start?

First i have to give you some respect. You actually try to debate the subject. Again you think A dyson a good number 1 option, but I think you find out that he really not that good. (this one we will just wait for after season and see what year Dyson had)

JMO Mistake your making is your going by just stats and not going by what you' seen. Listen you look up C Woodson stats and they aren't that impressive. Reason teams never challenged him and would throw to the other side. (reason Greenbay rewarded with BIg contract despite his inability to stay healthy)
Now getting back to F Washington versus J Miller. Here are the Facts 1. F Washington played alot more time,(saw field alot more) than J miller( D barrett and Ty Law were your starting CBs) F washington about after 4 games was starter at CB(C woodson was lost for season). 2 IF F Washington was on the field so many more times ,why was J miller (less time) had more tackles than F Washington. Simple explanation is that WR were catching more passes on J miller and teams weren't challenging washington. Teams weren't challenging F washington, half because his coverage was good and the fact that Raiders didn't have anyone that could match up to TE(Renaldo Hill) and they would take there chances there.

This dosen't prove anything as its just one person opinion, but sporting news 2006 Draft. Here what grade they give for both players. F Washington B developed into a reliable starter Justin Miller c+ explosive kickoff returner needs to refine skills at CB. I used it because it one opinion that I agree with and it what I witness watching both players last season.

I will admit Im not biggest college follower, but thats not the case with washington. This is something I read . F Washington was a lights out CB for Nebraska his first couple years. They switched coaching staffs and scheme . He didn't do as well. J miller was never first team in his league
Who really cares what anyone really does in college. Just because you were all world in college dosen't mean your skills are going to translate to faster progame.

BTW Raiders really didn't use F washington in return game as they had Chris carr for that role. Won't use him in that role this year as bot C Carr and Rod " He Hates Me" Smart will handle those duties.

Comeon be fair, what did your offense do that was so great in that Raider game. Bollinger beat Raiders more with His legs than with his arm. Jets won the game with defense, as Tuiasiosopo consistantly set up Jets offense. N Asomugha went man to man with L Coles and if not for that bogus [phathom push were they awarded Coles TD) shut him down.

NOw if you just saw Denver raider games, I could see you saying that about raiders defense. KC game- Raiders defense kept them in both of those games. (don't think they played bad in either of those games)

Sam williams was lost for season in preseason. (how is he going to do anything when hes on IR - was player they were counting on alot) Tom Kelly (raiders best Dlineman) I did say would get 10 plus sacks. I did envison him playing more DT than DE. Also don't fool yourself TOM Kelly seeing double teams allowed speed rusher D Burgess to be the NFL Sack leader. That dosen't happen without a TOm kelly.(bellichik said was one of the best Dlineman in the game)
YEs I did say sapp would turn it around. Sapp probably had his best season defending against the run last season and had 5 sacks in 10 games. 5 sacks for a DT is bad.

Sapp didn't play down the stretch and its not coincidence raiders defense did suffer.

Here Is the quote from S Jarod Cooper(seasoned veteran) at Raiders camp Without a doubt , despite the fact that M huff hasn't played a down, I will say hes the best cover safety in football already. THat heavy duty praise that alot of veterans were giving the rookie. KId been that impressive.
IF he stays healthy next year, can't see him not winning defensive rookie of the year.

WHAT?!! We're quoting Jarod Cooper - at best, a special teamer - on the future of Michael Huff?! If Jarod's such a crack talent evaluator (or, <snortle> excuse me, "seasoned veteran"), then why isn't he able to tell himself that he's roster fodder that should keep his mouth closed and stay in the corner of the locker room.

Look, I like Michael Huff a lot, but this is why I've stayed out of this thread thus far - it isn't "good Raiders debate," as the title suggests. It's Raiderjeaux making loopey platitudes. And, as 10P and plinko point out, when we ask about these things after they don't pan-out, all we get is more loopey platitudes.

The Raiders are an improving, lousy team; which is to say that they're still a lousy team. That exciting, young defense will (again) be pushed around the field. On the upside - the ONLY upside - they're fast enough to catch up to and chat with other players about current events while they're being run over.
