Exactly what I was thinking. He's not an NFL calibur QB anyway, plus with Smith at least we know he has a chance of avoiding the sack.

If Wright and Stucky continue to perform like they have, i could actually see J-Mac becomming a odd man out. Why pay him 3.9 mill when you can pay any of Smith, Stucky or Wright much less for the same job?

I'm not a cap expert by any means just throwing that thought out there.

The greatest thing about KC's performance in the last game, IMO, was that he looked entirely comfortable at all times. As far as I could tell, the only time he forced any pass was the short one down the middle that was nearly intercepted. But he was entirely comfortable, which is something we didn't see last season. And of course, he has some ability to go along with it.

That says that we have a decent number 2, and 2 is what he is. Since Chad is healthy, and if Stucky looks great for the rest of pre-season, it may be that the Jets have to place Brad Smith at the number 3.

McCariens will be unloaded probably by trade before we break camp. He cost more than he's worth to us right now especially since we have some depth now.

I believe that there is absolutely no way that this happens. Right now, McCariens is doing fantastic and may very well turn out to be our best receiver this season. He is way too much of an asset to get rid of, and I think that's Mangenius's assessment as well.

That's debatable, and it may throw a monkey wrench into the equation, because I'm not so sure he can.

McCariens is a highly paid workout warrior who under performs. We have a lot of depth and young talent, when a team comes calling and offers us something we need McCariens is the logical choice to be moved out. We are not strong enough on the OL to run effective 4 WR sets, Stucky and Smith both have more upside and cost a fraction of what McCariens is costing us.

If you listen to the buzz on McCariens it appears to me he is being show cased.

No, the buzz about McCariens is because the guy is doing incredible, day in day out. He is getting mega praise from Mangini, because he is doing everything right. To trade that is irresponsible, and I pray it doesn't happen.

And with regard to Stucky, he has ONE pre-season game on him. Where do you get that he is going to be thrown into the #3 right away? I don't believe the Jets are thinking this way.

I'd like to know where you see McCareins doing all this amazing stuff in the games. He's too big and doesn't have a quick enough first step to play in the slot, and we already have Cotchery and Coles split out wide. Yes, granted, he may be having a good camp, but he is always said to have a good camp, and always ends up getting the dropsies during the season. I like him as a down the field option, but not for the money he's making. I'd much rather see younger players develop then see him play every other offensive series, when he has the contract of a starter.

A Jet Restores His Confidence With Each Catch
    By KAREN CROUSE
    Published: August 14, 2007
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y., Aug. 13 ? On Monday morning Chad Pennington lofted a pass toward Justin McCareins, who leapt into the air to snare it with the playful abandon of a puppy running down a Frisbee.

It was another acrobatic catch by McCareins, the Jets? receiver who has spent training camp churning out visual masterpieces like Warhol paintings. ?He?s coming out each and every day and just making plays everywhere,? his fellow receiver Jerricho Cotchery said.

The other day, Coach Eric Mangini said: ?It might have been two or three practices ago, in the corner of the end zone he reached around the defensive back?s back and caught the ball with one hand. Those are really good concentration plays, and they?re hard to make and he?s made a few.?

While there technically isn't anything wrong with this statement, considering the Jets are $10 million under the cap, money should not be the reason why McCareins is loaded. Unless you can get legit value for him (4th rounder at least), there is zero reason IMO to move him.

I think the only Buzz your hearing is the cieling fan . Yea he gets praise for working hard... but he hasn't done anything incredible or awe inspring in any way. If he was that amazing, you would see it on the field against other teams, where it counts... and it would have happened sooner than in his 3rd or 4th year hear.

And who the hell is Karen Crouse

How much under the cap are we going to be when Revis is signed and they start reworking Kerry Rhodes deal? If we can get value for McCariens in a draft pick OL men or a RB it makes sense to move him. He is way over paid for a guy who is a mediocre slot WR and a backup.

Between Barton, Barret and McCariens one of them will go. The other 2 are just better players at more critical positions right now.

    Thats my bet.

    Move Smith to the 3.

Keep Coles,Cotchery,JMac,Stuckey then either Frisman or Wright.

If anyone heard Manginis interview on the FAN, it is pretty clear Wright is going to make the team. What he said was the battle at WR could come down to STs, Wright is the best Sts player on the team, let alone the Wrs.

Wright makes the team with Frisman unfortunately caught in a numbers game, unless of course Mcariens is traded(doubtful).

All 3 of those guys have had solid offseasons. If any one of them were to be traded/cut (which I am doubting) it would be McCareins.

Also, can someone explain to me again the situation with Brad Smith as #3 QB? I thought that if we had him listed as #3 he would be inactive and therefore unable to play as WR or any other position.

People have speculated that he would be listed as #2 on the depth chart so he could continue to play receiver and Clemens would be #3.

Word on the street / out of Denver's message boards is the buzz is true about McCariens. It's been noted that Denver inquired about him in recent days. Nothing solid, but something I heard from a good friend who is an avid Denver fan / message boarder.

It's nice to have options at WR. When your problem is who to keep because you have good depth, that's a good problem to have.

Here's my feelings on JMac, take them or leave them. I know at least some of you will leave them happily ;)

    1. When he came to the Jets, we thought we were getting a lot better in quality than we did. Before he was with the Jets, there was no doubt that he was a very good receiver. Since he has been with the Jets, his performance has gone downhill.

    2. I want you to discount his history with the Jets, because I think, right now, he is better than he ever has been -- certainly better than the guy we got from the Titans way back when. I think it is possible that he could be our best receiver, better than Coles and better than Cotch.

    3. If he is our best receiver, which I believe is possible, then I think it would be crazy to ship him off to another team.

    4. He has been getting much praise from his teammates and from Mangenius, and that's not just because he offers to play Special Teams unlike many of his teammates.

    5. Mangini says that what a player does in practice translates to the field, and I'm starting to believe that.

    6. Bottom line, people are underestimating JMac because of his prior performance. I think he's a new man and is ready to be an upper eshilon receiver in this league. I never thought so in the past; I think so now. I don't want to see that go to another team.
