i will try to make this seem sensible, but will probably fail.

if they viewed slauson as a jag and figured between vlad (all ready counting against the cap) a draft pick (rookie pool already figured against the cap) and a retread cut f.a. who will maybe cost the same but no guaranteed $ plus you can get a comp 6th-7th round pick, they can find someone to get the same production,
well than you end up with winters, peterman, and vlad competeing for the lg fighting for the lg position.

winters got hurt so we don't know if he is better than vlad but we can say vlad was better than Peterman since he was cut. now we see if vlad + a late draft pick is better than slauson.

so far he is ahead on the bet because the retread was let go,meaning between winters and vlad we have up and coming talent at the position instead of peaked at mediocre

    does that seem plausible?

I'll have to look it up then, but yeah, it was 600k two years ago so that sounds right. I guess I'll find out how much of a savings that is over going with Ducasse a little later.

Hmmm, didn't think about padding the '14 draft with comp picks. Makes sense given the many roster positions that still need to be filled.

Somebody call my boy Vlad a lummox?

Last year's O-line coach knew Slauson was better but he was ordered to play the biggest load on 2 feet Vlad. Instead of keeping Moore and Slauson (who were not all pros last year admittedly), we signed Peterman (horrible) and Colon (might be OK) and are now going to rely on King Ugly? Oh, and instead of drafting Chance Warmack we settled for Winters (jury awaits on that one). And we wonder why we can't get the line back to what it was in 2009?? Wait until they get Geno Smith killed and maybe some fans around here will start paying attention and realize that we have been had.

Even though Tanny is no longer here and he drafted the bum it seems that Rex and Woody still have some kind of emotional attachment to Vlad and have rooted for him to prevail. I agree Idzik has no tie or need to justify. As someone suggested he probably just wanted the comp pick. But he should have known that Peterman was garbage and barely a warm body. With Winters injured and frankly quite new to the position of guard, it created a scenario where someone as lame as Vlad could actually win the job.

  9. No matter how much you bitch & moan while assuming the worst you can't change that Vlad earned his starting spot.Consider Vlad started the offseason as a back-up swing tackle w/ 3 guys in front of him at guard(Peterman/Winters/Schlauderoff). He was thought to be destined to be cut based on the numbers game, the overall disappointment early in his career & the ties to a failed former era. But he performed well ALL through camp no matter where the CS put him. Many on here on TGG have NOTICED his plus run blocking in the past & knew it was only a matter of time before the pass pro started to come around.

All of your negative energy is based solely on how he performed earlier in his career & the fact that he was a Tannenbaum draft pick. All your talk about going back to watch Vlad earlier this preseason & how badly he performed is a load of crap. Several others w/ more impartial views have done the same thing & have spoken highly of his performance.

No matter what you say or negativity you try & project...the argument is over. Vlad earned his starting spot at left guard despite the odds. Deal with it.

OK - what you say is fact that he indeed has the job. Now when the Jets QB gets hurt this season because of him, deal with THAT.

You sound more and more clueless every time you post. At least you have a good imagination.

Yes I must be wrong. Peterman is a good player and Vlad beat him out so he must be good.

    this x1000

i thought vlad should have been penciled as the starter coming into the season but they pushed him down on the depth chart and tried like hell to get someone in there besides him. well guess what... vlad persevered and won the spot.

looking at the tape, vlad is playing pretty good right now and i absolutely trust him to protect the qb during the season.

not to mention he will destroy d-lineman and lbers in the run game

I was obviously referring to your fantasy regarding the emotions of the Jets coach and owner.

Fantasy? Who knows? I am grasping to figure out what is otherwise inexplicable to me. Watching Woody and Rex during Hard Knocks they seemed to like the guy. Back then we knew Mr T wanted Vlad to play. He was quoted on tape during that show saying how bad can Vlad be if he can't beat out Slauson?

Winters was taken like 60 picks later. He doesn't need to be as good as Warmack.

And I guarantee Milliner + Winters is much better than Warmack + Any 3rd round CB.

That might be because you don't know what you're looking at when you watch football.
