Yeah I don't think that he'll be going against any OLB's, you see he plays Guard, not Tackle, so he isn't protecting anybody's blind side.
It doesn't matter who he is assigned to block - he can't pass protect period. With Mr T gone, it's amazing he was even still here. Peterman was bad, but this bad?
Hey, helluva take regarding left guard Vlad's responsibilities towards "defensive ends" and "ROLB's" as well as protecting Sanchez' blind side. Conversely, if it wouldn't be too much trouble, could you explain to me the difference between the 3 and 5 technique defensive alignment? Thanks!
Who are you? Pat Kirwan? Just answer this. Hasn't Vlad almost gotten Sanchez killed in the past with his horrid pass blocking?
Hmm..Wasn't that 3 years ago during his rookie year against Haloti Ngota w/ a UDFA Center in his first pro game playing next to him? Are you suggesting that a player can't get better over a time? A interior linemen who was raw coming out of college no less?
Nope, Pat Mamonkey. Like Kurt said, the Vlad of Bad left last year. This year's King Ugly looks like more of an evolved beast - look at the game film. Even on pass blocking, so long as he keeps his man from getting around his left shoulder and "pins" them inside against the zero gap guys, he as good as stones 'em cold. The guy is silly strong. He's not the 2010-11 version, he's improving. And the coaches who see him EVERY DAY apparently are seeing that as well.
The fact is this front office and coaching staff has no ties to Vlad so it's not a matter of trying to not admit a draft pick is a failure. They came in with a clean slate and this was the result. Makes me a lot more comfortable believing he's gotten better.
I'm actually pretty interested in understanding how a guard is responsible for blocking defensive ends and outside linebackers, given your previous statement. Also interested in you citing specific events where Ducasse was beaten by either of those two positions, given that he has seen very limited action. Seems like you are trying to distract from your ignorance with this response.
I misspoke in furtherance of the gag. Fact of the matter is that King Ugly Vlad started in the league at OT and was so bad they moved him to guard. He was terrible last year at that as well as the O-Line coach admitted he was ordered to platoon him with Slauson on orders from above (read Mr T who drafted the load). I do not believe he is that improved and I watched the replay of the game yesterday on the NFL channel. He is not any good no matter how you slice it and for the team to have kept him speaks volumes about its cluelessness. Then again, I couldn't see signing one of the worst guards in the league in Peterman. He must be even more atrocious than I thought if he couldn't beat out Vlad.
Wait... you misspoke, or you were playing a gag? What gag were you furthering? Where did you misspeak? Because now it just seems like you are running a huge line of bullshit to cover up not knowing something that should have been pretty common knowledge to a Jets fan.
That's about what I thought. You realized that you got caught trying to say something specific about the Jets, not some broad nonsense that any random rival fan would know, and someone busted you on it. You're a rival troll, thanks for proving it.
Rival troll for who genius? I just don't like Woody, Idzik, Rex .. or you. I do like Joe Namath and I wish the Jets would win the Super Bowl again in my lifetime while you continue to make excuses for their horrid management & play and blame sportswriters for their failures instead of those who are actually responsible.
Granted it was against the raiders, but Slauson looked great for the Bears. Good pass protection, and at least one of the long runs from Forte was his block. If the Jets didn't have Vlad they would probably still have Slauson. right? Didn't they not resign him beacause Vlad was "ready" to take the starting job? Who would you rather have on the roster? Or is far superior QB and RB play masking the fact that Slauson isn't really an upgrade over Vlad?
That's something that didn't make sense to me. The Jets cut Slauson, who was intimately familiar with WCO and zone reads, for a retread and a lummox who has only excelled in run blocking. It reeks of justifying Vlad's draft position.
This is just one man's opinion but I was never really high on Slauson. He was at best a physically limited technician who was inconsistent as both a run blocker & a pass blocker. Ducasse was/is also inconsistent but he gives you a much bigger pop in the run game, can pull(unlike Slauson) & can much up physically w/ pretty much anyone. Slauson perhaps gets the edge in overall pass pro but even that is minimal.Ducasse(at least in theory) is much more well rounded. I guess time will tell
idzic has no reason to justify vlad. he let slauson walk to get a shot at a comp pick. look closely and you will se idzic didn't sign any expired f.a.'s and let our guys walk. al with an eye on the 2014 draft
I agree, and that is what makes no sense to me. But unless Vlad really shows up this year, what else can it be? saw your edit... can that comp pick really be worth it unless they were wrong about Slauson?
The CS have determined that Big Vlad has played better than anybody else at the position and therefore deserves to start. By way of correcting the record, the NYJ didn't just let Slauson walk, they were not willing to pay him 715K in a guaranteed contract plus a six figure signing bonus. I think the Jets were willing to go Vet Min.
