I keep saying this forever as I know others have as well.

VJ will be a Patriot. He is the perfect fit for Brady.

I was listening to 1090 AM in San Diego before the pre-season started and they were discussing this as a possible option for getting VJ out of town and acquiring Mankins.

Once Moss was dealt to the Vikes, it seemed to appear the writing was on the wall.

I just don't see the Pats replacing one headcase with another. I think they're conceding this season, and preparing to rebuild through the draft.

except you have to ignore all the other writing on the wall in regards to the Patriots not generally paying WR's big money, and Vincent Jackson wants to get paid; he isn't interested in the winning team discount. he's a disruptive me player in a contract year already on a winning team and more interested in get paid than playing -- yeah that sounds like the type of player the Patriots seek. they get rid of players like that, not bring them in. not to mention we already know how much the Chargers would want in return, and there is no way the Pats give that up. hell, the Vikings wouldn't and they were desperate. you think the Chargers are going to lower that price as well as keep him in the AFC when they could have gotten more and sent him to the NFC?

nothing about the Moss trade correlates to a Vincent Jackson trade unless you ignore all of the other aspects of how the Patriots do business.

Negative. As long as they sign by week 10 or 11 they can acrue a full season on the contracts. 6 weeks, basically.

Vincent Jackson will not be a Patriot. I'm guessing they made a phone call and asked about it, but like someone else already pointed out, they're not going to dump a ton of money on this guy if they weren't going to give it to Moss.

JetBlue nailed it on the head. Look at the past to see how the Patriots handle these things.

Jackson's also one strike away from a one-year suspension. No way they pick this guy up, even if the price is good. And from the sounds of it, it's not.

Moss is older and on the down-stroke of his career.

VJ is younger and is in his prime.

that still doesn't address the other issue of what it would take to trade for him and whether that fits the Pats MO. the Chargers already refused a second rounder; how much do you think the Pats would be willing to give up to get him? and is it the Pats MO to give up such high picks for players?

The Pats would have to give up more than a second since the Chargers already refused that from an NFC team, so why would they accept it now from an AFC perennial powerhouse? they wouldn't. regardless of his age, is it the Pats tendency to trade away high picks for players? no it isn't.

after that, they would have to pay him. is it the Pats tendency to pay big name players? no it isn't. in fact, they trade players for picks when they want to get paid.

his age simply isn't the primary issue when all the other factors it would take to get him fly in the face of the way the Pats operate.

    Nope!

I think they feel they they are still plenty good offensively. Moss was not the difference in this team being a SB contender or not! Their defense is. If that doesn't get better they aren't going to SB Moss or not.

I agree with alot of this. However, as far as paying a WR, they did pay Moss top 3 money for the position his last contract (3 yrs 27 mil)

I agree with you that it seems unlikely. I think Mankins and a 4th would be more than fair.
