yeah but before they drafted Ngata Ray Lewis still made impact plays. Name three impact plays that Vilma made this year. All of his tackles are 5-10 yards downfield.
Vilma was our least effective linebacker this year. He was 4th best. He is an average at best linebacker. People need to realize that!!!
Mcv How can you say that Vilma had an OK season. 0 sacks in 17 games. 1 tackle in the bills game. Are you kidding…I think by accident I could make ONE tackle in a NFL game. If someone can remember a game that Vilma played in this year, please let me know. MCV.......Milk Carton Vilma is a perfect name for him. Great players make plays...... adjusting to a different defense is bull.
Think U R missing the point. Here "great" players make plays & JV did not do that in either the 4-3 or 3-4. For us to get to the elite we need a dominant MLB that can handle all phases of the position like blitz, cover receivers out of the BF, stop the run at the point of attack not 5-10 yds DF. My own personal opinion is he takes to long in figuring out what the other side is doing which would account for his poor play since he is always late reaching the attack point
after watching some of the linebacker play yesterday...Im going to give Vilma the benifit of the doubt for one more season..and thats it. He doesnt dominate..has never dominated. He had a couple decent years and many of us thought he would get better. That hasnt happened. He never carries the defense on his back for a game...for a half or even for a series. Many around the league say he has the tools...so let see with one year under his belt..a full offseason to look at film..and Im sure a better defensive line playing in front of him..lets see.
If Man is ALWAYs looking to upgrade & is so knowledgable then that is a position worth spending money on if the player is really a huge, huge upgrade
your probably the same guy that would be quick to get rid of vilma because he had a decent season and then turn around and say lets keep chad pennington. once we get that big dt we looking for and vilma is back to rearranging helmets then you'll be back saying he's the greatest linebacker etc.... have some faith and let the defense grow first also wasnt vilma the leading tackler on the team ?? and you call that a bad season!!! Sometimes I just dont know
I'll concede that great was too strong. And no he didn't really make any impact plays that I can remember. His main problem is that he is on the smaller side for a MLB like ZThomas , the difference between him and ZT is that ZT has been playing a whole lot longer. Give him time. If he can't adapt next season then play him at OLB or better still rover.
Im tired of people like you making these bullshit threads. Has it occured to you that he was adjusting to a new defense and that he is the leader of our D. You dont trade the leader of the defense unless your an idiot. Thank god your not the GM.
he's had a quiet year, rushing the qb, but vilma has been doing a good job in pass coverages. vilma's a stud and overall i would say our lbs had a good year, not a great one.
I was saying his 05' season. Technically, it was 2 seasons ago, but I guess since the playoffs haven't ended, you may think i'm talking about his rookie season. His rookie season he was very good, played excellent. In 05' he played good and this season he played very average.
Please take VILMA and his ZERO sacks and ONE Interception This guy is the most over-rated linebacker, not in JETS history, but NFL history. In THREE YEARS, he has a total of 2 1/2 sacks and 6 interceptions and constantly gets his ass pushed back on running plays.
Who the hell rates him as a TOP linebacker? You telling me as a middle 1st round pick he hasn't lived up to his selection? Most overrated LB in NFL history...Yeah, great thread.
