A third rounder for Vilma is a good deal considering he was coming off of an injury. Don't really see what there is to complain about here.

EDIT: I see it's already been stated.

I still think the Jets would do better if they could get him back so they got a 3rd round pick by leasing him out for a year haha.

I wouldn't argue with Bart Scott either, but I'd be curious to see what Vilma could do in a Rex Ryan D.

Following the combine – I’m going to shift my focus to oral from that picture in Kelly’s avatar.

Right because if there were a handshake deal in place Payton would be blabbing all about it to the media.

how is it a douchebag way? because they are conducting business in a manner that benefits their own team and not the other teams they made trades with? asinine.

Yeah, but its really not a 3rd rounder.
We give them our 4th rounder & they give us their 3rd rounder.
All we really do is move up a round.
But its also a trade that gave us a 4th rounder in the 2008 draft.

Its not as good as the 3rd rounder we had to give up for a single year of Favre.

If I were running the Detroit Lions, I'd go after Vilma as soon as FA opened up.
Thats a team that needs to fill as many holes as possible.

Because they skirt around agreed upon trade conditions. The fact that they even announced they plan on resigning him AFTER the deadline in the trade is dispicable.

My main point is, we got rooked. I'm glad we got anything, but such a silly modifier is rediculous.

I don't think they got hustled unless Vilma is re-signed by the Saints within 72 hours of his release. Teams opt not to re-sign players immediately and let them test the market all the time. The only reason Jets fans think they got hustled right now is because some of us had him valued at the 2nd round pick automatically. However, if the Saints do sign him without any fuss right after the FA signing period begins, it wasn't so much of a hustle as it was Tanny gambling that Vilma would have such a good year that they'd never let him hit the pool. He didn't.

they aren't skirting around anything. the Jets set the trade conditions and the Saints are adhering to it. they aren't forced to sign him before free agency and are entitled to sign him as they feel fit, there is nothing despicable about that. the Jets aren't getting rooked at all. not sure why you feel so victimized, on part of the Jets, about this? pretty silly to feel that way.

We should at least court him to try to run up their bill. Not saying what they are doing is wrong. They have a right to do it, but we also have a right to make them pay to do it.

Vilma may screw the Saints! Classic:

    http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation

Although there was an assumption the Saints might have had a handshake deal in place with linebacker Jonathan Vilma to re-sign soon after free agency started, it hasn't happened yet. Looks like the Bucs are making a strong run at Vilma and this could get real interesting. The Bucs lost out to the Redskins in the Albert Haynesworth sweepstakes. New coach Raheem Morris and general manager Mark Dominik don't want to be the runner-up again. If the Saints end up losing Vilma, this could be disastrous because he was one of the few bright spots on the defense.

Classic. The Saints deserve this because they tried to avoid giving us a 2nd rounder

Wow. A third rounder for one season would be a terrible trade for NO.

And isn't TB like 60 million under the cap. They can throw a crap load of money at Vilma. Let's all root for the Bucs!

    Darn. Saints resigned him:

    http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/27/saints-reach-agreement-with-vilma/

The Saints reached agreement with free-agent linebacker Jonathan Vilma on a five-year, $34 million contract that includes $17 million guaranteed and $23 million in the first three years.
