That was the most blatant roughing the passer and probably an unsportsmanlike penalty not called all year. I saw the Jets lose a playoff game when Gasteneau got called for a roughing penalty when he didn't stop when he was withing 3 feet of Bernie Kosar and had just released the ball. The guy who hit Sanchez was 10-15 feet away and Sanchez was watching the play after having released the ball. F****** unreal. Don't expect the NFL to fine the guy after the fact, either. They don't want to bring attention to the fact that Bill Pollian -- who writes the rules on Offensive PI so as to maximize the value of Peyton Manning -- has been manipulating the league office for a decade. Next to the guy who tried to stomp the helmet of a guy on the field, that was the most blatant penalty -- and not called at that -- I can recall. Maybe if Goodell worried more about officiating competence and less about having hiring dictated by mongrels like Al Sharpton and the diversity police we wouldn't have blatant errors like that.
i never said it had no effect, maybe you were thinking of someone else. of course it had an effect...but it didnt even come close to losing them the game.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the play earlier in the game when the Colts defender came off his feet and hit Sanchez in the head area. Sanchez managed to throw the ball away while he was falling to the ground but anything resembling that hit on Manning would have been a penalty if not an ejection.
That non-call on Sanchez was turning point for the JETS! Man, fking Jones had to go man, after Greene go hurt, we have no fking running game at all! I was soo fking pissed.
Colts had, if memory serves, one penalty called for five yards. Theres a reason everybody wants home field advantage in the playoffs.
There was also the time Brick was on the receiving end of a head slap right in front of one of the officials - no call. Still, it wouldn't have ultimately made a difference in the game. What it did show is the advantage of being the "established" team, with an established QB, and playing at home. That's how I saw the lopsided nature of the calls.
The refs managed to catch a pinky grabbing a facemask......but a 6'3" 250 pound linebacker hitting Sanchez, that they didn't see.
Is the NFL officiating beginning to become the officiating of the NBA with the preferential treatment to their stars (ie. Manning and Brady).
I pretty much stopped watching the NBA a few years ago because of the officiating. It has popped into my head but it's not close to the control the refs have of the game in the NBA. IMO- Sports #1 Selling item is integrity. Once you lose that, it's over!
I don't watch the NBA too much either but for certain NFL players, it seems as if the rules are a wee bit favorable.
and you know what.....you're right. Just the fact that they allow Some QB's O-Lines to pretty much do anything as to protect them is pretty obvious.
And like you stated earlier, when we are discussing issues like this and are not talking about the game itself, then there is a problem that takes away the integrity of the game. Numerous times this postseason during calls, or no calls, I've heard "The NFL wants (add your team here) to be in the Super Bowl and not us. Yeah, sure some of it is being a one sided fan but sometimes it appears obvious.
