Break it down for me, brother. I was under the impression that the purpose of college is to prepare its students for their future careers. Maybe I'm looking at it from the wrong angle. From the business side, their purpose is to make money. Yes, I get this, but from the consumer side, the only reason the majority of people go is because it is required education for the field they chose to start their careers in. How many NFL stars get drafted straight out of high school?
I think you are confusing REAL college with college sports. If you think the billions of dollars spent and made by colleges is paid to prepare college football players (or college basketball players lol) for the purpose of getting them ready for pro sport, then we are having a very discordant discussion. Btw, the NFL can't draft anyone straight out of high school. It's a deal the NFL and the NCAA cut BECAUSE they want separation of church and state. _
Ok, so you have told me what the purpose is not. What is the purpose? Yes I know that they only care about making money, and the colleges care about winning, but that's a different discussion. Every business is about money, but I clearly said "purpose"(ie why were college sports founded?). A big pharmaceutical company's objective is obviously to make money, but the purpose is to manufacture and sell drugs to their customers. Are you telling me that athletes do not choose to go to college to play football with the goal of improving their game enough to make the NFL? I don't think we are arguing about the same thing here, but I could be wrong. My only point in this discussion is that uniform rules with the NFL will better prepare athletes for the NFL. I wasn't trying to get into a big philosophical debate about NCAA standards and money making.
the purpose is to make money wilkerson. and the NCAA is doing just fine doing that. exciting spread offenses are a major reason why
You are foisting your wants and desires and the desires of NFL fans on many multi-billion dollar businesses who do not care about the NFL or NFL fans. Do you think alumni pouring billions of dollars into Alabama and Auburn and Texas and USC and Georgia and Notre Dame give a half baked shit about what the NFL wants? Do you think the schools with multibillion dollar foundations care about the NFL? These are not regular college kids going to college to get an education to get a job. These are athletes given a free ride to attend college with the starry eyed hopes that some day they may make millions in the NFL. Running backs and Wide Receivers and Tight Ends LOVE playng in spread offenses because it showcases their talents. Lineman and defensive players and special teamers aren't being prepped for the pros by playing on or against pro set offenses or spread offenses--for them it's singular skills and physical talents. The only one crying for the NCAA to prep players for the pros are folks complaining that QBs arent' ready for the NFL when they come out. Why would the NCAA fix something that is working massively well? To help an organization that has no interest in the charter members of the NCAA? You think a coach making $1 million or $2 million or $3 million wants to play in a pro set, lose games and get fired? When he can play in a spread offense and win forever? __
what it really boils down to is time. an nfl quarterback prepares for hours and hours and hours every day of the week for his game plan. (I posted an article in this forum today about how carson palmer prepares for a game.) a college student athlete doesn't have that time to prepare like an nfl qb does. he cant be given 171 plays and go through them and game plan how they will work and not work against multiple different defenses, he doesn't get to practice these plays against a real scout defense and then watch himself running the plays. he doesn't have 40 hours in the week to practice and prepare. he has to go to school, eat and be a college student. so running an nfl offense is impossible, running a simple few reads and perfecting them is the key. even for the uscs of the world. who ran a pro style offense for years and put a bunch of horseshit into the nfl.
