The problem with Vereen is that he's pretty one dimensional in the pass game. It's incredibly valuable but it'd be tough to take him on as the sole backup to Ivory. With the money he'll most likely command I doubt we'll sign two runningbacks. I'm on board with Vereen if we bring back Powell as insurance because most runningbacks are one blow to the knee away from being done for the season. It can be said for many backs but Ivorys style has to take a toll on his body throughout a given year. He doesn't deserve the injury label anymore but Ivory ' s aggressive running style will always be a worry particularly when he hasn't even eclipsed 200 carries in a season yet. That's a good and bad thing but again given his style it leaves some question marks. I like him a lot I just don't see him lasting in the NFL as a feature back for more than a couple seasons if that. I'd be comfortable with Ivory, Powell and a lower end free agent or a mid round rookie. Runningback isn't really an area of concern when we have two solid guys.
I think an all purpose speedy back should be a priority in the draft. The offense really needs an upgrade & RB should be a priority, especially with the uncertainty at the QB position. On a different note, anyone else curious why we haven't brought in McCown to kick the tires
What about bringing back Laron Landry? The Colts cut him last week.....Id take him back over his scrub brother.....He had a great year with us I really wanted to keep him.Maybe he can teach Pryor how to hit somebody
yeah you are right, Washington is still under contract. i had read that Ariz was ready to move forward w/o him, so i thought he might be cut. didn't realize they said that as he faces yet another possible suspension for domestic violence. can cross him off the list.. Thurmond i like as potential nickel CB competition, but would of course still sign a higher end FA to play the outside.
Ah that's a shame... I could make a case for bringing in a guy who's been suspended for pot on a low-risk , low-cost deal, but if it's DV, then forget him; he needs personal help.
Free agency is getting closer and some players have been cut. Here are some more possibilities: - TE Anthony Fasano: Had a down year in KC, but is a veteran and perhaps can be a more effective blocker/receiver than Cumberland; would cost less too - TE James Casey: Overpaid in Philly, he was still a very plus-player in limited snaps. He can block and play H-back and would be an upgrade over Cumberland and whatever is at FB - OG Mike Pollak: He's bounced around a little and had some injury woes, but he played very well this year when he was in. Would come quite cheap and would be a big upgrade at guard. However, he's not young and probably not a long-term answer. Good backup plan or depth guy at least - DL Ricky-Jean Francois: This is if they want different DL depth and don't bring back Douzable. If he doesn't seek a starting gig, he could be a rotational player here - ILB A.J. Hawk: He's about the same age as Harris and hasn't been as effective lately, but if Harris isn't resigned, Hawk could be a good veteran player or bridge as a younger ILB is groomed. And here's a non-cut under-the-radar player: OLB Derrick Morgan: By PFF's numbers, he was one of the better edge players this year. He tallied a decent sack total and doesn't have the same hype as guys like Worilds, McPhee, Brandon Graham or even Brian Orakpo, but if he's deemed a good fit for Bowles' defense, Morgan could come cheaper and still be a very good player
i'm pretty sure his scrub brother was the #7 rated safety last year by PFF. LaRon was not even close. Dawan is the better player this point point, LaRon is washed up. Regardless, Dawan doesn't fit the new scheme so expect him to walk.
Great find. Didn't know that Morgan was available, and he's be a great signing (at the right price) for the 3-4
http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6681/charles-clay Wow. I was not expecting this. Clay was at the top of my list of FA TEs. I wonder if Clay would talk to us. There is a connection maybe with Kacey Rodgers. I guess we'd have to at least top 7.1 M per to get him though... Maybe we can get creative and offer him a longer-term deal with more guaranteed money but spread out.
