We'll just have to agree to disagree. I respect your opinion, just don't agree with it. I think you have it backwards because you're admittedly biased against him due to his height. USC has more cache to its name than Oklahoma. UCLA probably does as well. Both have fallen on harder times recently, but historically they've always been up there. Oklahoma has a great history too, but it greatly underachieved under Stoops. Their success this past season is due primarily to two people: HC Lincoln Riley and Baker Mayfield. Whatever hype Mayfield has gotten, he deserved with his play and in winning the awards (Those aren't won on hype, they're won on the field). You interpret his attitude as "punk." I do not. I think a "punk" attitude is the gangster, tough-guy, bully type. That is not Mayfield. He has been brash and immature, but everyone that knows him loves him and talks about his great character. If he was a "punk," that wouldn't be the case. Mayfield does have the college credentials because he earned them the hard way. He walked on at two big-time football schools and not only survived, but thrived. He's the only QB of the top 4 that started for 4 years. He's the only one that improved from year to year. He's the only one that has won big awards He earned every bit of that. I disagree that Darnold looks very solid. He throws too many interceptions and fumbles the ball too much. He has a hitch in his throwing motion that quite likely will lead to a lot more interceptions and knocked down passes in the NFL. He's only started 1 1/2 seasons, and I believe that I read that no other college QB with that little experience has ever succeeded in the NFL. Supposedly, Darnold's strengths are his size, his accuracy and ball placement, and ability to create/extend plays. Mayfield's accuracy and ball placement are better. Mayfield's ability to extend plays and create are better. The only thing Darnold has over Mayfield is size. His arm isn't even as strong as Mayfield's. If Rosen didn't have the concussion and injury history, even with his thin frame, I'd like him best. The thing is, he does. Mayfield may not be the natural passer that Rosen is, but he's more accurate, has a stronger arm, has better ball placement, hasn't thrown nearly as many interceptions as Rosen, and even though he's shorter, has a thicker, stronger build. Still, I like Rosen #2.
I don't know, but even if he was (which is far from a lock), I would still take a FQB over him, and we obviously are.
NCJetsFan you do know that Mayfield suffered not one but two head concussions during the same game, right?
And you do know that he has seemingly gotten over that with this season being the proof, right? EVERY QB gets injured at some point, just as every RB does as well. Are you just going to bring up injuries that players have gotten over and have had success?
Hey guys, Barkley has injured his ankle numerous time in college. He is automatically going to be injury prone moving forward and is going to have a short career. See what I did there?
This is very true as well. Unless someone had a massive and recent surgery with no proof of overcoming their injury, I don't want to hear the injury argument as the sole reason to pass on a QB.
Well when it's serious head injury concussion(s) with trauma to his brain... You'll have no other choice but to hear these injury arguments. An ankle injury is not quite the same as a brain injury. Apple's to mush.
UCLA had1 QB taken in 16 years in the first round, Tommy Maddox who was a bust. The one before that was Aikman in 1989, not a bust. USC has produced two QB busts Sanchez and Leinart and one very good NFL QB in Palmer taken in the first round. OK has produced 1 1st round pick Sam Bradford in 2010. As far as underachieving before Mayfield arrived, OK has produced 15 10 plus winning seasons in 20 years. UCLA 4 and none over 10. USC 11 in 20 years. That's how crappy Stoops was. FYI two Sooners QB's won National Championships and the Heisman who couldn't cut it in the NFL Josh Heupei and Jason White. Sam Bradford while injured has been a 500 QB when healthy and starting in the NFL. Grabbing your crotch and cutting your throat is punk, especially for a QB. Hopefully he matures out of it. Mayfield's ability to extend plays being better is almost impossible to determine based on the complete mismatch in competition. One of the things I don't like about Mayfield is the idea that he's thicker and less prone to injure. Many compare him to Wilson. If you watch tape on Wilson he is built like a tank from the waist down. Mayfield is built like a guy who lifts a lot of weight but doesn't at all look like an NFL running back from the waist down. The fact that he runs to create is a decided negative for Mayfield in the NFL. He also doesn't have to most of the time because of the extreme mismatch he has on his OL compared to the competition he faces along with the outlet talent to get the ball out to. One of the things I hate about comparing LJ to Vick is although LJ was a much better passer in college Vick again looks like an NFL running back compared to LJ. LJ is going to run and create in the NFL but he's going to get hit very hard and that's why the comparison to Vick is terrible. I hope I'm wrong but I think this kid could get killed in the NFL. Mayfield has a good arm and is accurate. He's footwork kind of stinks and he acts like a punk often. He is a competitive guy and I assume most top college QB's are either pretty competitive or are so zoned in it doesn't matter. If he runs in the NFL he is going to get hurt. RG3 who was arguably better than every one of these guys coming out was a very successful NFL QB until he got hurt. He was deadly accurate especially on the deep ball but he's "creativity" destroyed his early career. It will be interesting to see if he can sit and get another chance on a well managed team if he can finally adjust. You make a good case for Mayfield. I respect that. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike him. I just have a tough time picking an undersized QB with what I see as a potential attitude problem at 3. On the flip side in 1991 Ron Wolf our GM loved Favre and we didn't have a 1st round pick that year. Atlanta took Favre right ahead of us in the 2nd and we took Browning Nagel. If it turns out Mayfield has a great NFL career, I will tip my hat to you for having the foresight to see it.
If your 2 QBs are gone and someone offers you the world to move up to get Barkley, another QB, Chubb whoever..... you make a deal. Don’t be silly Seth.
You don't make the move to begin with unless you're taking a QB no matter what. Don't be silly man, we would only trade down if a team offered us like 4 1sts. Also, what is this myth about 2 QBs? WE ONLY MADE THE MOVE BECAUSE WE LOVE AT LEAST 3.
You have a retarded idea about pro football in general if you think that Mac is looking squarely at QB, and willing to take the 3rd best QB in the draft at 3. This class is overhyped. I'm sorry you have no idea what football is about. You will see on draft day. I'm sure if Rosen or Darnold and Barkley are there, Barkley will still be a consideration. Football game changers are why you trade up, not for questionable talents, regardless of position. You have no clue.
You realize that NC also thought Hack was going to be our future plan. Right? He can't call out anyone on QB's. He may be the biggest FAN Boy on the board for particular QB's. I believe he love Mayfields head band that sets him apart. He knows nothing about QB's. Period.
He is a better Pro QB than any of the prospects. This isn't Madden, we can use him for a decade if he does the job. He has a better chance than any of the prospects except maybe Rosen, but Rosen may not make it through the pre season without injury. You guys have no idea.
Barkley might be instead of a rookie QB, I bet you will love him. Imagine him and McCown/Bridgewater!!! Eat your heart out. Look I like Rosen as a QB, but I'm afraid of his health. Darnold is a turnover waiting to happen, maybe he will work out. Mayfield and Allen, won't be in the NFL in 7 years.
Holy shit!!! I'm not alone! It's so fucking simple, right? Mac will look like a genius, while the QB gurus on this board will look like dumb dumbs from draft day on. Fist bump to you brother!!!! Lol
Rosen may not last but Teddy will? A 15 year old Madden Champion that was actually retarded wouldn't count on that. You're trippin bro
No, you're retarded if you don't believe that he made the move for a QB only. Seriously, our damn owner implied it.
