I like Barkley a lot but IMHO he isn't any better than 3-5 other backs in this draft. Give me Chubb, Freeman or Johnson. Also....A lot of vitriol in this thread. Some people taking this way too seriously. Lighten up, guys. It's supposed to be fun.
Probably been said a dozen times in here and once by me but I will say it again, you don't trade three second round picks to draft a RB..not and keep your job..it wasn't long ago when RBs were taboo anywhere in the first round much less at the 3rd pick.
I just read through some of these posts and I really feel like some of you are over exerting yourselves lol. The Jets traded up from 6 to 3 giving up three 2nd round picks. I doubt that they did this move for any other position other than QB. Having said that, if you disagree with that...more power to you. What is with you all freaking out because someone doesn't agree with you? Share your opinion and move on with your day.
You just cannot pick a non QB. We have been waiting for 50 years for the next guy. Everyone in our division has found him. We have not. This year there could be as many as 4 excellent QBs. You have to take a chance. If you don't take chances you stay mediocre. Being safe is not rewarded. If you find the guy you can finally take your turn at dominating the division, which means being in great shape to make a Super Bowl run. A QB is the only position that does that. Plus, Mac should be fired on the spot if he even thinks about it after moving up to 3. His job is on the line based on which QB they pick. Allen could easily be the best QB of this generation if he works hard, and it seems like he has already improved his footwork and accuracy. I still go Rosen first if it was me, but we have to take Allen or Mayfield over any positional player.
I think it is because I am 14 years older than I was when I originally joined this forum. The older man in me sees the ridiculousness of some of these posts.
The Jets gave up 3 picks, but I agree. It has to be QB. When you swap picks and get the better pick, it's not giving up anything. This is the best QB class in a long time. You simply have to pick one if you are lucky to have your pick of your best 3.
Actually it is spot on, if there's one thing the entire history of the draft proves, is that RB's are expendable and especially in today's game. For starters, Barkley may not even be the best RB in this draft, and if he is, it's not by much over the next 4 RB's. Add to the fact the amount of abuse a feature back takes as well as their generally short shelf life in the NFL and you would be a complete and utter moron to trade up from #6 to #3 giving up 3 second rounders in the bargain to draft him.
You're really an idiot. If he wanted to select from that crop of players, he would've stayed at six and simply waited for one of them to fall, versus SURRENDERING THEE 2ND ROUND SELECTIONS. Because we moved up, we're CLEARLY going after a QB, as reported by everyone, as basically confirmed by the owner, and it's the only logical conclusion to the deal. If you think we're taking Barkley or some non-QB, you're either shilling for a particular prospect, you're in absolute denial, or the worst, you don't understand how the NFL operates.
Any other year if the Jets were this shitty and picking 3rd, but with a QB already on the team, I would say take Barkley. Problem is, we are shitty without a QB. So no go on Saqon.
Nowhere in my post did I say we were taking Barkley. FYI Barkley would not have been available at 6, there is no way.
No, but your point also spread to Nelson/Chubb, who will very likely be there, or at least one of them unquestionably. Here is the bottom line, you don't make such a trade without a FQB for anything but a FQB.
It happens every year. Some of my past avatars were Jaylon Smith, Beckham Jr, Amari Cooper, Manti Te'o and Todd Gurley.
