Bradway, will disagree with me; but I think this needs to be a European led decsion. Obviously, I think the U.S. should support which ever decision EU chooses. We cannot lead every front while securing our borders. If this was in S. America than we would lead, but this is not our "backyard", it's Europe's.

If we let it be an EU decision it will be Bosnia part II but much worse because it's actually the Russians this time. We're past the point where a negotiated solution is likely. The US and UK decided they'd rather have the sanctions wedge against Putin. Now we're just going to have to skate as well as we possibly can on increasingly thin ice. I'm not remotely optimistic at this point. WWIII may not happen but that will be because the Ukrainians get ground to dust to keep the process itself from disintegrating.

Some day western policy will be setup to actually help the people it affects instead of to exploit them. What the Ukraine needed was a good lawyer not a hand in the middle of their back propping them up and encouraging them to invite a war they could not possibly win.
Political government is nothing without the exploitation of the people it claims to govern. Same goes with organized religion. They are just forms of population control by a small population of decision makers.
