As I noted above, I disagree completely. If the Jets had lost yesterday, they still would have made the playoffs, and they even still would have been the 5th seed (maybe? not sure). They also would be going in knowing that they could have gone in on their own terms, but failed when it counted and needed help. The distinction to me is obvious.
I agree with junc. there is no backing in. its foolish. The games you win in september count just as much as the ones you win or lose in december. If you make the playoffs, you make the playoffs. There is no reason for any modifications
theres actaully a cool article written by michael smith about us not be intimated by the pats at the bottom.
I really don't want these guys to start picking us... I'm much happier this year staying under the radar
I think there can be backing in, but what the Chiefs did isn't backing in. Chiefs won there last 2 games. It's not even close to backing in. I don't think backing in is just losing your last game either. One bad game doesn't mean you aren't playing well going into the playoffs. The Cowboys are backing in. They lost 3 of their last 4. I'd say the Giants, despite their win are backing in as well.
Herm can eat a fat one...even though Larry Johnson's gonna get 50 carries in the chiefs victory this weekend against the Peytons
KC is the story though. They are the improbable playoff team and the happiest to be in. The Jets were expected to be in.
We lost our last 2 games in 2004 then we beat SD at SD and were a kick away fromt he title game. You either win the amoutn of games you need to win or you don't, sure you'd like to win the last game but momentum doesn't always carry over.
Thanks for that obvious information that has nothing to do with the point. Did I say that teams that back into the playoffs can never win a game? Did I say that teams that win their last x games are guaranteed to do well in the playoffs? (This year's baseball postseason shows that that is not true as well as anything could.) What I said is that the Jets would be feeling very differently about their chances if they had lost and gotten in anyway. To me that is obvious, and your boy Herm Edwards agrees, as his quote in the other thread shows.
OMG, i never even thought of this, the thought makes me want to drink, that would be so very much fun.........HERM, HAH!!!!
