I am glad that we got someone to improve the thin pool of talent we have at the guard position. I am hoping for the best but after seeing the last lineman we got from Seattle I am worried. The smart move at this point would be to add another lineman to be safe.
LOL The Cardinals just signed a Guard to replace one drafted in 2013, you know why? BECAUSE HE SUCKS A team that just went to back to back Super Bowls didn't resign a member of their offensive line, you know why? BECAUSE HE SUCKS Wake the fuck up people, this is a bullshit signing.
Kyle Wilson is a young corner and former first round pick from a few years ago...should we be excited if the Jets re-signed him? And Byron Maxwell is legit. Carpenter is not. Maxwell was going to max out his value in free agency, not get paid like a #2 and stick around Seattle. C'mon man
im meh on the signing but everytime someone says we idzicked or something like that i die a little inside
These are the types of players that POTENTIALLY provide value in NFL free agency. I'm comfortable with the risk/reward here, again, assuming the contract is reasonable. Young, upside, and you don't have to break the bank. If it doesn't work it's easy to move on from. If it does you have a starter.
I do remember this guy getting called for a few false starts in prime time / playoff games. Dude looks like a dreadlocked "Re-run" from What's Happening...
This isn't a knock specifically on Carpenter or anybody else we might sign, but in general the feeling I have right now is: I don't get why Big Macc is rolling up to the drive thru at McDonald's and ordering off the dollar menu when he could be feasting on a steak dinner at a 5-star restaurant. If Revis spurns the Jets, then what? The FA ships will already have sailed. What then? Carry over another $40 M in cap space into 2016?
i wouldn't say its a bad signing but its not a great one. i like the youth though, so i'll give this my approval
What? How is Maxwell legit and Carpenter not? Maxwell sucks. He was one of the lowest-rated CBs in the NFL. Carpenter was higher rated as an OG.
Maybe because he's seen the handwriting on the wall and he knows none of the steak dinners want to be served to him. He went hard after both Franklin and Iupati. He may have talked to enough players or their agents to have an understanding of what the market is like and know that very few players want to come here. What the heck is he supposed to do? Maybe he's being smart locking up an OG who can upgrade our OL before someone else does.
Take some Tums, Rolaids or Pepto-Bismol. Maybe he likes Carpenter better. Maybe he talked to Boling and/or Wisniewski or their agents and they had zero interest in signing with the Jets. Maybe Carpenter is the best he could do.
Jets will know Revis' plans by before 4 tomorrow most likely. Its clear they are going to go all in for him and "settle" for the remains if they miss out.
So you're getting on me for not liking the Carpenter signing, and you wouldn't have liked it if we signed Byron Maxwell with our gaping hole at cornerback?
I will take your word on this. I hate the false start penalties though. I think I've had enough of that between drive-killers Colon and Winters. I still want Boling for the other G spot, or Bulaga.
