did he plan on giving away a season or did he think, because they overachieved the year before at 8-8, they could scrape by one more year without committing to the guys on the market last year he didn't want, and then start getting players this year based on who was available? obviously he did not intend to plummet like we did, and that is why he was fired. you don't get to captain the ship after you steered it into an iceberg because you stripped the crew of talented navigators. you go down with the ship.
I don't agree. I think just signing Revis now for the 50 mil was a direct order from Woody who basically said as much in his presser. I don't believe for a minute that Idzik had power over the owner it was the other way around. In my opinion there is no way Idzik got a call from Revis and didn't tell Woody about it. As for the source, the Revis team do you really believe anything they said. When they consistently lied in other negotiations. The reason Woody didn't want to deal with them.
Or just as possible the new GM wanted Revis as much as Woody did, and the decision was as much as his as it was Woody's desire. I never intimated Idzik had power over Woody, I said Woody empowered Idzik to make his own decisions. Idzik could have very easily told Woody Revis had called and he wasn't interested, and Woody said fine. All Woody said was that if he thought they could have gotten Revis for that same $12 mil he would have taken him; but if if Idzik never got into numbers with Revis' team there was nothing for Woody to push for. I don't claim to know what went on which is why I think it is silly to declare one way or the other just so fans can create caricatures of people that fit their own agenda. My interest is simply making sure all potential and reasonable possibilities are being given their proper weight in the discussion.
I don't understand how the "you can't judge a draft class this early" argument applies to last year's draft-- how many never took a snap for the jets? Who gives a crap if the guy turns out to be good on another team? In fact, that's WORSE! And we can wait around for two or three years waiting for IK or Evans to develop, but look at all the WRs we skipped who are already producing.
This is what I think and I could (and probably am wrong). That during the interview process for GM (and I think there were rumors of this) Woody told Idzik and other candidates that he didn't want to deal with Revis anymore. Because of the two holdouts, etc. It wasn't about Revis the player it was about his agents. And then esp after the injury part of the deal to hire a new GM was getting rid of Revis. As we all know Idzik wasn't the first choice to be GM: David Caldwell was. (and he's not doing so great in Jax-but what he does have is the support of the owner. In spite of losses and maybe a poor draft pick in Bortles he wasn't fired). What we heard in the press during the hiring process is that nobody good wanted the job because of Woody's interference. I don't think it's fair to blame Idzik on not signing Revis. Plus he made a very good trade with Tampa Bay. You can probably blame him for not signing Cro. Which to me in 2014 was a good decision. And I'm sure he got the evaluation on Cro from Rex and the coaching staff. Although I did hear that Rex wanted to re-sign him after they struck out with Davis and DRC.
Look, Idzik wouldn't play ball with the press. Rumors are he wouldn't even return their phone calls. Plus the press loved Rex. He was friendly, personal and gave them good copy. And Rex exploited this. You almost never heard negative stories about Rex. It was the complete opposite. You always got Rex's point of view but not from him, from them. They killed Idzik and blamed him for everything and even accused him of trying to sabotage the team to get rid of Rex. IMO Rex was the key leak in the organization. It might not have come directly from him but he was the origin.
They had 11 or 12 picks (because of supplemental picks) and no way every guy was going to be on the active roster. Some guys they wanted for the practice squad were picked up by other teams. No team had 11 or 12 draft picks make their active roster. It takes time for some players to develop including Pryor who could end up being a 10 year player and a starter. I'm not saying 2014 was a good draft. I'm just saying it's too early to give a final grade. Year one in a player's career doesn't tell the entire story. Look at Blake Bortles. Do you fire Caldwell for selecting him and say the guy is a bust after only one year.
Are you related to Idzik? LOL.......he did cut the dead fat off the cap but never finished the job. That's why he lost his. Year 2 under Idzik was complete failure and it was pretty obvious he sabotaged Rex along the way....... You title is right though......it is twisted irony
He didn't try to sabotage anyone. Anytime you watched a Jets game and saw Idzik on the field after a win he was genuinely happy. You can't fake that. He wanted to win no matter what Mehta said. He also didn't do mass firings in the front office. I think he tried to work with Rex and the organization. Did Idzik do a good job in two years: no. But he would have like Mac spent money this year because how can you not spend money when you have 50 mil.
and his drafting wasn't that bad either.... but you won't hear anybody giving credit there either. The 2013 draft saw 6 out of 7 players starting for us. In the same draft he found the DROY at #13....in a position that no one would have expected to Jets to draft. Now we've got the future cornerstone of our defence The 2014 draft was pretty solid too...except he let half those guys walk out the door. Losing a side to side MLB like George so we could have kept that bum Edds still gets me.
The The man was a buffoon........if he didn't sabotage Rex he sure did a good job appearing to...... Even more remarkable than Idzik's apologists is the fact we are even still discussing him. The current administration is getting the Jets back on the radar...that's all we want at this point.
Idzik hit on Richardson but appears to have missed on most of his other picks. He really squandered 2014.......it is what it is. He's gone now...
I'm wondering why? It's like discussing last weeks weather......it's done and over with. I'm much more inclined to discuss the future of this team
Its amazing Mr.Dumpsterfire got a job with the Jaguars.I thought it was tough being a Jets fan but its really gotta suck to be a Jaguars fan
Lol Hes had the impact I thought.. They will be forced to spend 89 percent of the cap next year. lol. 63 million and they barely mAde a dent in it.
It's one season since that draft and you've made up your mind. Idzik gets an F even if Pryor and Milliner become good Dbs and long time starters for the Jets. And other players become contributors or just good players. In your mind that's impossible. I'm not an Idzik apologist but this under two year indictment is irrational. Just look at the list of players he drafted and tell me they all suck. If you do you're wrong. And while you're at it look at other teams and show me the number of players who in one season are big time contributors. I guess you would fire David Caldwell for drafting Bortles.
2013 draft only good player we got was sheldon. I'll hold judgment on milliner but so far he is a bust since he can't stay healthy. 2014 draft out of 12 picks only 2 look to be nfl players.........maybe someone like Dozier and mcdougle can become good but I don't see anyone else doing much.........so 5 out of about 19 picks for idzik are nfl players
