And it's good that Becton has to face this all the time in practice - it will definitely help him improve.
X factor really puts out some amazing content with the type of analysis and depth we would never see from a beat writer. So many podcasts out there it is hard to listen to all. But, I would add some caution that I would not trust all independent media. Nimbley is amusing and often adds good points but I don't trust him and I think that can be said for a number of independent guys. But, they bring so much more depth than what the beat writers have been giving us but without the access to players and coaches that beat writers have.
Again, I always give your opinions, especially regarding QBs, a lot of weight. But I have disagreed with you on Wilson from the beginning. We'll eventually find out of I was wrong to doubt the "TGG QB guru", but for now, I'm still confident in my opinion. As to the things you listed that are concerns, when you read that he did these things, were they done multiple times or once in a while? And do you know if it was because he didn't know any better, or because he was testing himself to see what he can get away with? On throwing off the back foot in particular, Wilson has done this often in the past, usually when scrambling, and he's shown he has the arm strength to do it, so I think this is more of a "feature, not a bug" in his arsenal. I sure do get the concept of PTSD from all the busted Jets QBs I've seen, and maybe I've just finally snapped and can't make sense of things anymore, but if not, I really do get the feeling that Zach is different than any other QB we've had since maybe Namath, but if I'm wrong, it sure won't be the first time. You're certainly entitled to remain pessimistic, I just wanted to offer some alternative thoughts for you to consider.
First off I was clearly talking about the entire Jets organization, team structure and players from top to bottom when I say I see a lot more good than bad and it is not even close. Just focusing on the offense as you just clarified is another interesting and subtle take on saying about Wilson specifically. If that is what you are referring too then so be it. Not me. I care about the whole team. I think the key pieces we have added to this D are far and away a slam dunk improvement and the DL is now in the upper quarter of the league. The LBs are solid and speed has increased tremendously. Safeties are also solid. Our CB are young but they have demonstrated some real fire and skill in training camp. Add a far better DC staff and this D will rock with energy. So in no way shape of form is that not a win win. From a total offensive stand point the improvements in my view are many 1- Over the last two years, JD has put his energy in revitalizing the offense with draft picks and free agents to improve it. And now that the dismal prior coaching staff is gone we should see some of last years picks begin to flourish. I think Perine and Mims and the OL will find much more success under a proper coaching staff and early indications in training camp are positive. 2- The OL has been improved significantly. AVT and Moses are key pieced to get this team off of dead center. 3. The OC staff and new game plan is absolutely better than than awful stale, old fashion crap of the last two years 4- We probably have one of the best WR nucleus of the last 15 years. Davis is a stud, Crowder a solid albeit unspectacular slot receiver and Moore was the steal of the draft. Enough said. good complimentary pieces behind them 5- Our RB corps and running game schemes are far more effective than the two yard Gore down the middle BS. Carter is also in the views of many another steal with the fourth pick. So yeh....IMO the offense is also better, lots better in key spots than last year. So the real issue, which people seem to want to talk around is Wilson. Do we have concerns about him. Of course we do. Its a rookie with limited top defense exposure playing against one hell of a good defense and knowing that he is expected to take the lead on day one. Unlike SF or Chicago for that matter. Yet he manages the pressure like a pro, not a rookie. From everything I seen so far, against all the stops, he has had highs and lows and trying to grow into the toughest position in football. I'm not going to open up a debate here. Way too early to tell how long it will take for him to grow into the role or not. Big if...as it is with any rookie. But at least he has a much better supporting structure and coaches to give him the best chance to succeed. That is something Sam never had, good support. If that is not better....don't know what is. Last year was a joke.
Which seems weird to me because other than that DPI during the RZ session, I feel like Hall had a good day. Maybe it's just Cimini??
That’s part of why I’m not worried about becton. 2nd reason is he won’t be going against a lot of Lawson type ends. Also things are pretty vanilla right now. I’m sure they will adjust the scheme for the better ends we face
I think that is the problem with a Cimini evaluation. It is often based on one play not over the entire practice. He sees Hall got a pass interference call but then ignores the reportedly great job he did with tight coverage the rest of practice.
This argument is pointless. The QBs do all kinds of drills where there is no defense or little defense. The point of facing the full defense that is trying hard is to simulate game experience.
I used to get all angry about it but it's not worth it. I mean it's fun to make fun of but if you're just looking for information then you need to learn how to filter out whatever slant they're putting on it and take it for what it's worth. You can usually find the truth if you collate their reports.
That’s what I do except it never bothered me. I don’t even take issue with the national media taking cheap shots. When you lose, you’re an easy target. The only remedy is winning. I get more annoyed and worried when everyone is patting us on the back. That never ends well in my years being a fan.
Let’s not conflate being low on the depth chart as struggling. From most reports when he’s gotten snaps he’s looked good. The other guys could be out performing him, he may not be back at full strength yet, this could be motivation or whatever. Either way, it’s not ie he’s stinking it up in camp.
