I am on the same page as you here. My point is quite limited. We all were hoping one or both would come in and show from off season development or for whatever reason that they have (in Smith's case) had some real improvement, or (in Fitz's case) can make the case for replacing the incumbent with better play. We know already that is not likely to occur since any such off season development would have been evident by now. Sure they will both try to improve in camp and the pre-season games. But so is everyone else in the NFL.
I don't really follow. I've seen numerous reporters write of how Geno looks like "a completely different player", to which posters on this site have offered the obvious and reasonable retort of "I'll believe it when I see it on Sundays." Aside from one day yesterday, all reviews of Geno are that he has shown significant improvement from his first 2 seasons, which in my opinion is the "such off season development" that should be evident by now. He's put together 4 good practices and 1 mediocre practice yesterday. That's enough of an early sign for me, so long as he continues to build on it until it all culminates into regular season success.
my point is that neither guy will be on the 53, unless they step up their game, AND show some position versatility. neither has shown much promise to date imo... and we have other options.
But Geno sucks bro. There are far too many Jets fans who actively root for and expect failure. They fail to grasp that Geno is our best option for long term success right now, and if he fails, we are stuck in the abyss. I want Geno to succeed because it means we have an NFL QB, not a veteran retread or a green rookie, and we don't have to use a high draft pick on the position. Further, our offseason acquisitions make it highly unlikely we will have a top 5 pick even if Geno does suck, so we won't be able to draft a top QB prospect even if the need arises. I'm fully behind Geno and believe he should be given every opportunity. If he sucks, we are going nowhere.
all white is the best look the Jets have IMO. if I had it my way that's all they'd wear. but: Wearing all white while you face the dark, hot, brown, fugly Cleveland Browns on what could be a hot sunday afternoon in early september is not just an aesthetics decision it could play a competitive advantage (albeit small). Same goes for the dark green eagles jersey and the dark maroon redskins. by november when it cools down, they want to mix in the green at home thats cool but it won't be the first time they wear green all year. I'm guessing they wear it in London vs. Miami and probably in OAK too
lol...when do you think he will be at that point? This will be what? His 11th year in the NFL? If he can't do it by now, he never will. Go take a look at other teams' camps and see how many turnovers their QBs have. Then compare their CBs to Revis and Cro. Honestly, even with an improved Geno, throwing against Revis you should expect some INTs. Or do you expect the Jets' QB (whomever that is) to never ever have a turnover? I don't think 1 turnover in probably over 100 snaps is bad at all against this defense. Also one thing to note is that one reporter who definitely isn't a Geno fan said that if it was a live game, Geno would have been sacked before the fumble. I haven't been on here very long, but from all the posts I've seen from you, I can gather one thing...it must really suck to be you. Being so pessimistic all the time has got to be tiring. You won't know what to do if the Jets actually become a good team...lol.
Wearing green in London against Miami sounds more likely than at Oakland. I also like the all-white look, I just thought that it was more of a Rex thing. I don't mind them wearing white most of the season.
What sucks is that we are relying upon the voted worst QB by his peers in the league in addition to having witnessed 25+ games with GS at the helm ourselves. You should acknowledge that your optimism lacks reasoning and is merely hoping against all odds rather than throwing the insults around.
A week away for some Jets football! Questions: Will someone throw the football? Will someone catch the football? How many interceptions will Geno and Fitz make? Will we win a Preseason Game? Will there be fans in attendance to catch a glimpse of Bowles and Mac? Has Geno and Marshall remembered to take medication?? Will Richardson make it with or without Police escort? Will we be in the SB? Guys I am on the edge of my seat..
His peers? I thought that was the NFL coaches that voted in that poll, not the players? There is plenty of good reasoning for my and others' optimism, but you pessimists refuse to acknowledge it.
This is one of hte most bs posts we've seen so far this year. Identifying real problems with the team IS NOT the same as rooting against them. Some people just don't understand what a sports message board is about. And some apparently never will.
I've seen reports he's more comfy in the huddle. His stats though are not indicative of significant improvement, and as I mentioned there have been several drops by defenders, of Fitz's passes as well, during camp.
All you have is personal insults and hope that your fanboy support of Smith someday has some basis in reality. WHich so far it does not. I should put you on ignore, but seeing baseless optimism in others can be amusing.
This is last year redux. Geno's improved. Not turning the ball over. Making (mostly) good throws. Making (mostly) better decisions. Etc. In order for them to mean anything Geno is actually going to have to play much better than what he's showing right now. Getting to minimal competence isn't what the Jets need. That just muddies the waters some more and pushes a real decision out another 6 months. In the NFL today QB is not a position that can get by not being the problem. The position is required to be the answer if you want to go anywhere.
I haven't seen him in person of course so I'm just judging by the accounts we are getting but there wasn't THIS much good reports coming from Smith and the offense as last year. There was some momentum sure but it was still a Rex Ryan team where the offense generally sucked all camp and Smith just sucked less than the year before. Judging by the reports its more than that this year.
I don't doubt his improvement but improving to what level? I want to see Geno Smith is having a great camp and tearing things up type reports. I don't really care if he's as good as Tarvaris Jackson by the end of camp. The NFL doesn't have room for mediocre QB's. The teams that play those guys are mediocre.
