Linehan benched him...and Haslett put him back in. Neither of those guys are in St. Louis anymore. That entire offense is done - they need to build around Stephen Jackson and Donnie Avery. Bulger isn't a part of their future.
I agree we have enough holes that probably don't permit us to trade up. But it's rare a team picks 18th with a shot at getting a franchise QB; usually those teams have a QB already which is why they're selecting that late. My point is, while the Offense needs to improve, there's a large enough arsenal and strong enough OL that a rookie QB won't struggle in the ways that a franchise rookie QB will often struggle when he has to go to a shitty team picking in the Top 5.
He may not be the future but with their line in shambles they are taking the best lineman with their draft pick
I know...probably Andre Scott. I didn't say they were going to draft a QB, I just think they're done with Bulger. They should've stuck with Jeff Smoker, right?
I don't believe in trading up. The better way is to trade down getting more players and not branking the bank. IMO Mark Sanchez; Quarterback, USC might be around when we pick at #17. He looks like a winner.
Lot of talk about McCoy, didn't he say he's coming back for his senior year? And I don't see why we should trade up in what might be the deepest draft ever due to fears of a coming rookie salary cap. And why trade up for a junior QB when you can get Cullen Harper and Curtis Painter in the mid rounds? Its true that both of these QBs had disapointing senior seasons, but how do we know that none of these junior QBs would not have done the same, had they come back? In his junior year Painter was thought of as highly as junior QB Sanchez is now, just wait and get Painter for less.
While this draft will be deep, we have a chance to get a true franchise QB in Round 1 (if one slides or if we have to trade up a bit). Drafting Haper or Painter will be along the lines of drafting Clemens -- they look good in college and may be good NFL QB's, but guys like Stafford, Bradford, and Sanchez will probably be better.
I like Stafford as well. Im a big GA. fan and have watched the kid play the last couple years. The guy has a big arm, as big as anyone in the NFL, lots of zip on the football. I personally think he would fit well here.
Yeah, he looks like the real deal. His accuracy could improve, but he's got the tools you want in a franchise QB.
Assuming that Bradford and Sanchez stay in school, why not stick around and pickup Josh Freeman (KSU) at 18? He seems a lot like Flacco - 6'5", 4.9, tons of arm strength - with a similar lack of starting experience (23 games total at KSU).
If Sanchez and Bradford declared, Freeman would be a 3rd or 4th round pick...maybe even worse. If neither come out, someone will reach for Freeman and I hope it's not the Jets. I wrote a long analysis on Freeman in the draft forum...the guy isn't worth a crap.
Screw trading up. Quarterbacks can drop anyway. If you're not a consensus top 5 pick, there's a good chance you'll fall because most teams need help other places before drafting a quarterback.
I live in LA and I've watched and read a lot about Sanchez. He's not the guy for the Jets. He's had a great supporting cast and still doesn't look nearly as good as Leinart did. He's not the QB I'd be after in this draft, which means the Jets will take him.
Mark Sanchez >>>>>> Matt Leinart I just don't think he'll come out. He's the only guy I like as much as I like Stafford. He doesn't have Stafford's arm, but he's more of a really good athlete who can really play QB. I like his style, and he's got an above average arm.
I do not think Stafford is not gong to be a big time NFL QB. He has a big Arm like Jeff George and so many others. That alone gets you squat in the NFL. He lacks the natural QB smarts (decision making, reading defenses etc.) The best real QB prospect is Bradford - but I don't think he is coming out.
