The NFL is such a repeat league. Since both first round QBs from last years draft had great rookie years, the QBs from this draft will go higher than they normally would in any other draft. in my opinion, Matt Ryan was a much better prospect than any of these "1st rounders" in the 2009. i say we work with what we have and draft Tim Tebow in the 2nd or 3rd round. Maybe he will become a stud at QB, and if not, we can use him as an H-Back or whatever. Seems like a lower risk-high reward pick. i mean, we drafted Anthony Schelegal in the 3rd round...can it get any worse than that?
I want McCoy next year as well if we haven't resolved the qb situation by then. I don't want to trade up in this draft for a qb. We can't afford adding another gigantic contract.
Tebow's getting knocked for playing out the shotgun and for having a weird release...look what Jay Cutler and Tom Brady did out of a shotgun driven offense in the NFL. A spread offense could work in the NFL...if a team is willing to invest a first rounder in a special type of quarterback like Tebow, why not use an offense he thrive in. It's what Atlanta SHOULD have done with Michael Vick... His release can be fixed with coaching - if he's drafted by a team where he can sit and learn, I think he'll be successful. So what if he won't be able to run people over ALL the time in the pros, nobody can. The guy is such a dedicated player that his drive will push him over the top. I like Tebow and I hope he kills Oklahoma tonight - I also hope he proves everyone wrong and succeeds...at QUARTERBACK...in the NFL.

I'm not big on Colt McCoy...I don't think he has an NFL frame and he lacks elite arm strength. He's a hell of a passer because he's so accurate and smart with the football...but I don't see him being successful in the pros. I don't see McCoy being able to put on weight and I don't see his arm strength improving. You can also use the same knocks against McCoy that are used on Tebow: He's got a weird release and he plays out of the shotgun... ...and who cares how accurate he is against the Big 12? Those defenses are garbage.
From Previous History Tannenbaum loves to give away draft picks and trade up , a practice I usually do not agree with. As good as Revis is , Keller might be and Harris who I think is overrated could turn out to be -- We really shouldn't have traded up for any of them.
how can you say 3 players we drafted up for are good but we shouldnt have traded up for him? a lot of players drafted dont turn out to be much..if we traded up for 3 very good players id take it right away
That's a fair point you make about Tebow; however, I'm in the camp that thinks his "style" (for lack of a better word) won't translate well to the NFL. You have to remember that his Offense - the scheme, the talent of the players, etc - are elite. They're dominant, even in a tough Defensive conference like the SEC. In the NFL, this levels out and the QB winds up having to produce much more against even better Defenses. You're right about running people over in the NFL -- you can throw that out the window because he won't last half a season without sustaining a concussion if he runs as much as he does at Florida. And the release isn't that big of a deal either because we've seen guys with awkward releases perform in all-star fashion (e.g. Rivers). The more I think about it, the less reasons reasons I find for why he won't succeed as a franchise QB. I just feel, based on watching him play, that he's not a prototypical pocket-passer. For all of the evolution that occurs in the NFL, I think a pocket-passer QB is the one constant -- the teams that have top tier ones succeed and the one's that don't rarely, if ever, make it to the SB.
Oh yeah, and about trading up. If Stafford gets past KC, Seattle, and San Fran, I still think we trade up to get him for 2 reasons: (a) you don't know who else might then try to trade up to get him (for example, maybe a team like Minn or TB make a move for him) and (b) the asking price decreases the further he drops and the closer he gets to our pick.
Jags aren't giving up on Garrard, i doubt that the Rams give up on Bulger as well. The other 3 are valid, if 1 passes on a QB a 1st round QB will drop to us so long as Bradford comes out
Tebow is the most talented player on that offense though. Harvin is great, but Tebow is their quarterback and their running back packed into one player. The scheme is built around their leader, Tim Tebow. It's a juiced up version of the spread that Meyer dominated teams with at Utah. Look at Tebow's receivers besides Percy Harvin though -- Louis Murphy and Riley Cooper - They're pretty good, but not "elite". Aaron Hernandez is also a pretty good tight end, but he's not elite either. Florida is stacked with speed at scat back - Demps, Harvin, Rainey...that's where their most of theirtalent is, so Urban Meyer uses it. The guy is an offensive genius...
Sorry for the repeat, but again, you have to consider Minn and TB possibly trading up to get him (if he slides). Do the Vikes rate Tavaris Jackson higher than Stafford? Garcia has been Gruden's red-headed step child for several seasons now, not to mention, he's getting pretty old (yet still effective, but for how much longer?). The Jets are a good enough team on Offense that a rookie QB won't have to sit his first year. The OL can protect (and will mostly likely improve with additions, depth, chemistry) and the run game is solid. Add a playmaking WR, along with Keller, and a guy like Stafford will have the tools he needs, much more than going to a team like the Lions, for example.
Marc Bulger is done in St. Louis, especially with the Rams bringing in a new coach. It's not all his fault, but he's not their guy anymore. I could see someone like Byron Leftwich ending up in St. Louis. The Jags have more pressing needs...like wide receiver and offensive line. Garrard gets another shot.
Yeah, I was thinking more of the last 3 guys you mentioned, not so much the WR's. But because opposing D's have to worry so much about those guys, it "protects" Tebow, kind of like how big batters protect other guys in a baseball lineup. One thing I haven't really noticed is the Gators OL. Is that dominant too?
I agree colt mccoy would be a great pick. This year we should concentrate on the defense. I think we have all the pieces in place on the offense outside of a down the field WR and a QB for the future. But I think we need to find the head coach first before we get any players or think of drafting any player. So we can see what type of player will fit his system. I just really hope we stick to the 3-4 defense because i really really cant stand to see us trying to rebuid the defense for a 4-3 defense. Lets get that coach first.
That situation would be the only reason to trade up, personally I'd be satisfied with anyone of the 3 1st round QBs as they all have good aspects to be a good franchise QB, although you are overrating the offense a bit, we still has enough holes to try bto see if we don't have to trade up
It is the line that was done in St Louis, not Bulger, the fact that they put him back as starter along with the hoopla that came from his initial benching tells you that they have some faith in him They are almost a lock to try to build a line with their #2 overall pick
The Pouncey twins are pretty good - both were 4 star offensive line recruits, and Carl Johnson is a stud - he was a 5 star recruit. Both of their starting guards - Pouncey 1 and Johnson are good pro prospects and their starting center Pouncey 2 is also very good. Their tackles are both seniors and were mediocre recruits coming out of high school - both were 3 stars. For an offensive line with 3 starting sophomores, it's a pretty damn good one...
